View Vacancy - HK - GREAT Festival Manager – Hong Kong and Asia Regional Lead (INTERNAL VACANCY)
DIT is responsible for promoting British trade across the world. As a leading partner for the UK Government’s GREAT Britain Campaign, the department helps to create business, investment, jobs and growth in the UK, whilst showcasing the variety of wonders that Great Britain has to offer.
In March 2018, the GREAT Britain Campaign in collaboration with the British Consulate-General Hong Kong will be staging an ambitious 3-day event celebrating British-Asia trade, with the aim of creating significant trade and investment opportunities. The effective delivery of this event is crucial to the demonstration of UK strength in Asia, and as with the two previous GREAT Festivals delivered in Shanghai and Istanbul, the Hong Kong event is expected to attract a number of high-ranking attendees including Ministers, senior business personnel, UK and Foreign officials.
To assist delivery of this key event, DIT needs to recruit a Regional Manager to lead the Hong Kong based effort, supporting and working on behalf of Director DIT Hong Kong (SMS1), and working closely with the British Consul General (SMS2). They will work as part of the GREAT Festival project team based in both Hong Kong and London. The post holder will lead Hong Kong inputs to weekly planning meetings with UK Colleagues and act as the focal point in Asia for planning.
Key tasks:
- Direct discussion and development of ideas for event content and relevant cultural activity.
- Identify and build effective relationships with keynote speakers, including UK and Asian politicians, senior business personnel, and industry magnates.
- Engage with regional DIT teams to develop and prioritise China/Japan/South Korea/Singapore content.
- Provide professional support to Director DIT to secure local sponsorship.
- Work as the in-market liaison with the DIT event management contractor leading on venue management.
- Ensure quality collation of guest lists from priority markets including Hong Kong China Japan and South Korea
- Consulate lead on relationship with local contractors, on behalf of the London-based events contractor.
- Ensure coherence with existing marketing activity in both Hong Kong and other key markets through the development and execution of a strategic communications plan.
- Primary responsibility for relevant regional activation budget.
- Post lead for identifying, monitoring and controlling relevant budgetary issues, reporting directly into the Festival Governance Board.
- Compilation of lessons learned and feedback in the immediate post event period.
People Management:
The jobholder will be responsible for directing and managing the efforts of Hong Kong and Asia based members of staff involved in the Festival, as well as managing local contractors to ensure a high standard of delivery.
Taking into account cultural considerations, this role will establish and maintain constructive working relationships with both internal and external personnel.
Stakeholder Management:
The jobholder will lead the Consulate’s efforts to manage London-based, Hong Kong and regional stakeholders, including officials and business personnel. Due to potential differences in priorities, effective conflict resolution, influence, communication and negotiation skills will be required to find agreeable solutions for all and to maintain and support strong working relationships with key stakeholders.
Project Management:
The scale and complexity of the Festival means that it carries a high degree of risk, including significantly political and reputational risk for the UK. This post will need to demonstrate a high level of experience and skill in both project and event management, in order to provide stakeholders with assurance that these risks can be minimised.
