The British Embassy in Oslo is part of the worldwide UK diplomatic network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are seeking to recruit a new member of staff to join the Corporate Services Team – an Administration and Finance Assistant to cover a maternity leave.

The ideal candidate has good time management, a proactive approach, flexibility, a sense of responsibility and is able to maintain accuracy in their work.

This is a varied and interesting administrative role.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process Local Employees staff salaries, including overtime, holiday pay, bonuses and allowances.

  • Follow NAV mandatory submission.

  • Calculation of fees and expenses to Honorary Consuls- quarterly.

  • Process Embassy Pension Scheme for Country Based Staff (CBS).

  • Carrying out A-ordiningen obligations, A-melding, Arbeidsgiveravgift, distribution of pay and deduction certificates.

  • Submission of Sick leave, parental leave refund from NAV.

  • Invoices payment, phone bills, Suppliers, VAT reclaim Embassy official.

  • Ability to speak, read and write English and Norwegian confidently (C1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages*).

  • Experience in Finance and administrative work in a similar environment.

  • Good knowledge of MS Excel and other MS Office programmes.

  • Knowledge IT financial software.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders, verbally and in writing.

  • Precision in implementing tasks, meticulous attention to detail.

  • Good organisation skills and ability to prioritise, flexibility.

  • A positive ‘can do’ approach to work and the ability to work as part of a team.

  • Education in business administration, finance or similar is preferable.

  • Understanding of local HR and salary regulation would be an advantage.

This is a fixed-term full-time position for one year for a maternity cover. Five working days (currently 35 hours net) per week.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance.

Employees recruited locally by the British Embassy Oslo are subject to terms and conditions of service in accordance with Norwegian employment law.

The Embassy offers a wide-range of learning and development opportunities. There is an opportunity to develop knowledge of trade policy mechanisms, and access to FCDO Diplomatic Academy, with encouragement to undertake the Trade Practitioner course.
