The main purpose of the job is to provide a high standard of logistics and transport support to the British Consulate. Core duties include driving, creating transport schedules and providing admin assistance to the Consul General and Deputy Consul General.

Roles and Responsibilities:

General driving duties

  • Strong driving skills – safe, smooth driving style; capable of driving long distances
  • Strong planning skills, flexible to change
  • Drivers shall follow the traffic law and ensure to deliver customers to the right place at right time. Be able to work at a very short notice

Care of vehicles

  • Keeping the vehicles clean and serviceable
  • Ensuring the vehicles are always presentable
  • Daily check of tyre pressure, hydraulic fluid, oil, battery level and fuel
  • Identifying any defects as early as possible and to keep any potential risk to a minimal level.  Report any fault or damage immediately to the Transport Manager
  • Ensure vehicle maintenance, servicing and insurance renewal is done as necessary

Admin Duties

  • First point of contact for customs clearance-related concerns. Act as liaison between the department and the Consulate.
  • Track vehicle usage and fuel usage for auditing 
  • Assist Consul General’s office; manage CG’s diary, support CG events, filing & admin support
  • Assist other drivers with paperwork
  • Deliver and collect mail and parcels to the necessary government offices and transport hubs.
  • Go to post office, train station/airport to deliver/pick up bags or parcels

 

Note: Management is looking to transfer line management responsibilities for the Drivers from Corporate Services Officer to this Transport Assistant. Handover will be gradual and phased within the course of a year.  

  • Driver must have a valid driver’s licence
  • Be familiar with various destinations including Chinese ministries, companies, airport, hotels, banks, etc.
  • Have a broad knowledge of travel routes, road conditions throughout Shanghai, Zhejiang and Jiangsu
  • Ability to learn and improve
  • Strong communication skills
  • Confident in using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook Express
  • Confident in using English language, particularly spoken English.
  • Preferably driver has worked in a foreign diplomatic mission or has had similar experience before

This position is advertised on a one (1) year fixed term full time contract. Working hours will be an 8-hour shift between 6am-10pm. Some weekend work are also expected.
