The British Embassy in Sofia is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. The Corporate Services Team is ensuring the smooth running of the embassy and the safe occupation of the estates.

The Corporate Services team at the British Embassy in Sofia is looking to recruit an intern to help the team with administrative duties, related to Events, Estates, Finance, providing translation services and helping with ad hoc requests.

The successful candidate will have the chance to learn about each of the specific areas of responsibilities laying with the Corporate Services Team and to help with delivering the embassy objectives. The candidate will be required to work in close partnership with the team, to build and maintain relationships with key external and internal stakeholders, local authorities and FCDO colleagues across the region.  The candidate should be positive, proactive and a strong team player.

The selected candidate will be reporting to the Events Manager.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Assist the Event Manager in planning, organising and delivering planned events.

  • Support the Corporate Services Team in delivering planned estates projects.

  • Update the Corporate Services and Embassy archives, related to estates, IT, security and others.

  • Assist the Corporate Services Team with administrative and translation services.

  • Assist the Transport team and the wider embassy team with deliveries.

  • Help with purchasing and distribution of items for working from home. Maintaining the relevant documentation and archive.

  • Take part in developing and testing the embassy protocols in emergency cases.

  • Support the residence team on ad hoc basis.

  • Fluency at C1 level both in English and German or French (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages*);

  • Attention to detail;

  • Good communication skills; excellent written and verbal English and Bulgarian languages;

  • Positive, proactive attitude and ability to work in a team in a fast moving target-driven environment;

  • Experience in service delivery is advantageous;

  • Good IT skills (MS Office - Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel).

  • Valid driver's licence.

This is a 9 month full-time internship of 36 hours per week (net of lunch breaks).

The successful candidate will receive a monthly salary of 710 BGN plus 50 BGN net as transport allowance gross. This internship is based in Sofia.

Core skills training and mandatory trainings will be provided by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. All staff have a personal development plan and access to world class learning and development opportunities. 

The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background and security clearance. Anyone with right of residence and employment in Bulgaria may apply, including all EU/EEA citizens and the family members of EU/EEA nationals exercising a treaty right in Bulgaria.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to terms and conditions service according to Bulgarian employment law.

Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Bulgaria and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
