View Vacancy - CPK - Deputy IT Support Officer, A2(L)
You will provide IT support for all users on both the British Embassy’s Main Building and Visa section networks. You will work closely with the other Embassy IT Support Officers to ensure the network runs smoothly and to help users resolve issues and get the most from the systems.
First line support for Embassy primary Windows networks with 400+ users.
Anticipate and respond to user support requests in a timely and professional manner; troubleshoot and resolve user problems; provide ad-hoc training to users to help them make the most of the system; manage user accounts and access to the system; escalate problems to IT colleagues in Beijing and UK as appropriate.
Hardware and network infrastructure support.
Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and network problems; escalate problems to IT colleagues in Beijing and UK as appropriate; rebuild, repair and replace faulty equipment; upkeep of hardware inventory.
Management and support of non-business critical and PAG systems.
Manage user accounts and access to smaller Windows networks; management and support of hardware, software and network infrastructure; help set up rooms and equipment for presentations; provide support for users working on Partners Across Government (PAG) systems when called on to do so.
Help ensure the security of the system and building.
Control user access to the system; ensure IT security procedures are complied with; escalate potential breaches as appropriate; manage access to the building (Visa section only); support CCTV systems (Visa section only).
- Knowledge of Windows network systems;
- Fault-resolution and network/application troubleshooting across Windows network environments;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office;
- Knowledge of viruses, hoaxes, and associated anti-virus programs, resources and avoidance strategies;
- Experienced at helping users get the most out of IT systems.
- IT support experience in a busy environment a distinct advantage.
Appointment of the successful candidates will also be subject to Overseas Security Clearance. Due to the security clearance level required for this position, this vacancy is open only to the following:
- Nationals from the UK who have spent at least two (2) years out of the last five (5) years in the UK;
- Nationals from the UK who have Diplomatic status in China ('W' visa holder);
- Other nationals from EU countries, the USA, Canada, New Zealand, or Australia providing they have Diplomatic status in China ('W' visa holder).
Necessary security clearance for this position can take at least two months and will require completion of a separate security interview which can take place either in the UK or in China (dates to be notified). Candidates must be available for this security interview to be considered for this role.
