This is an exciting and rare opportunity to join the British Embassy’s trade and investment team in Baku as Trade Officer (Infrastructure and third country collaboration). This new role will help establish relationships with senior decision makers and influencers in Azerbaijan’s infrastructure sector and help identify commercial opportunities for UK exporters. This will including exploring opportunities for UK firms to collaborate with Turkish contractors, both in the infrastructure sector and wider non-oil and gas economy. The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial, proactive and willing to take the Initiative.

Main roles and responsibilities

  • Develop appropriate business networks and relationship to map infrastructure projects in Azerbaijan that offer potential export opportunities for UK firms
  •  Effectively engage private sector companies, trade bodies, chambers of commerce, international and trade advisors in the UK to make them aware of infra opportunities in Azerbaijan
  •  Lead team’s work to scope opportunities to collaborate with Turkish companies in Azerbaijan, working closely with UK Export Finance colleagues  
  • Develop an infrastructure sector strategy which explains our plan to overcome challenges and maximise commercial opportunities for UK exporters
  • Help raise the profile of the work being undertaken by DIT Azerbaijan in DIT ECCAN and DIT HQ and lead all infra marketing communications activity
  • Contribute fully to all official/VIP visits by assisting with programmes, briefing materials, energy analysis for visiting UK ministers and officials
  • Support wider Embassy public diplomacy activities when called upon, including association with various committees, accompanying the Ambassador/DHMs on outside calls, marketing and more general political and economic assistance
  • Knowledge of the UK, including culture and ways of working 
  • Fluency at C level both in English and Azerbaijani

This is a full-time temporary position, five working days, 40 hours net per week.

This appointment will last for 2 years and 4months.

The salary is 2,173.86 USD gross per month and shall be paid in AZN monthly.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Azerbaijan is subject to Terms and Conditions of Service of the FCDO according to local labour legislation.
