The British Embassy in Amman is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual for the position of Protocol Officer, job grade Administrative Officer (AO).

The successful candidate will liaise with the Jordanian government departments on behalf of the Embassy in order to process all diplomatic residencies and accreditations, required tax and customs exemptions for shipments, facilitate the protocol issues of VIP visits and process all required dip vehicle registrations and re-registrations for the British Embassy staff members.

Duties and responsibilities:

You will process the following on behalf of staff members working at the British Embassy under the direction of the Protocol Manager:

  • Arrange Shipments/ exemption approvals
  • Vehicle registrations and renewals approvals
  • Ownership transfers
  • Issue of new vehicles from the free zone
  • Process vehicle fines
  • Arrange white plates and renew them yearly
  • Arrange permanent residencies for diplomatic staff members
  • Issue Income tax numbers
  • Assist with protocol elements of VIP visits
  • Issue/ renew airport passes
  • Process all invoices to the relevant department to ensure payment
  • Regularly update spreadsheets and job logs for tracking purposes

You will also need to keep accurate records and a track of where the protocol processes are in relation to new arrivals at the embassy and proactively ensure that documents are processed correctly and on time.

The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required.

  • At least 5 years’ experience in customer service or in a protocol role.
  • Literacy in Microsoft Office packages (Excel, Word, Outlook, Microsoft Teams and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage a complex and varied workload sometimes to tight deadlines.
  • High-quality communications and drafting skills with strong networking and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be flexible and present a professional image of self and the Embassy.
  • When workloads dictate, and/or due to absences, assist the Protocol assistant with the day-to-day administration, processing and field work.
  • Experience of working in an Embassy or Ministry environment.

Eligibility:

If you are selected for this position, we will be able to employ you as long as you:

  • Have the right to live and work in Jordan.
  • Receive the appropriate level of standard security clearance.

Working Hours and Remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non-negotiable gross salary of JOD 1,145 per month based on a 37 hours per week.

Please note that your salary will be paid gross, and you are expected to comply with your tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the local authorities.  If exceptionally you are not liable to pay Jordanian tax, you will receive a net salary, which is minus the deduction of an equivalent level of local tax.  Further information on this will be given to candidates at interview if necessary.

This role is for a full-time employment, on a permanent contract. The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-days probationary period (as appropriate). The selected candidate must have a right to live and work in Jordan.

The package includes a good level of health insurance and a friendly, English-speaking work environment. We offer opportunities to develop professional skills through our Learning & Development offer. Leave entitlement is 25 days (on pro rata basis) plus 14 public holidays.
