Main purpose of job:

The British Embassy Bangkok is a large diplomatic mission of around 140 staff delivering a dynamic and rapidly expanding programme of activity in support of the UK’s objectives including on prosperity, trade, security, open societies, consular services and law enforcement. This is an exciting opportunity to join our diverse team. 

We are currently recruiting an International Liaison Assistant to join our Home Office International Operations (HOIO), Border Security command team. 

HOIO has responsibility for identifying immigration abuse and threats to the UK Border, preventing inadequately documented passengers arriving in the UK, identifying visa abuse and developing criminal investigations against individuals and organisations which cause harm to the UK including commodities risk related activity.

HOIO works with UK and international law enforcement partners. The HOIO team in Bangkok has responsibility for Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar and Malaysia.

Roles and Responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?

Programme Support Role (50%)

  • Coordinate schedules, meetings, events, and travel.
  • Prepare agendas, minutes, reports, and basic presentations.
  • Track programme progress, collect data, and support monitoring and reporting.
  • Assist with invoice processing and expenditure updates.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders and respond to routine enquiries.

Immigration Operations Role (30%)

  • Managing team email inbox and organising events, meetings and transport.
  • Adding information to a database and assist with the preparation, completion and submission of month end reporting.
  • Assist with the preparation of the casefiles for the Police Referral Programme (PRP).
  • Assist with HOIO’s potential work on transhipment traffic for small boat engines.

Investigative Role (15%)

  • Preparing and undertaking verification checks on financial documents and checks to verify employment status of the applicant
  • Conduct other necessary checks as required to assist with the investigation and report findings to International Liaison Officer (ILO)

Other (5%)

  • Staff will be expected to make a corporate contribution to the smooth running of the British Embassy either through committee membership or another voluntary role to support the vision and values of the Embassy.
  • Support broader Embassy work as directed by the HOIO, especially during any crisis response.

  • Experience of dealing with sensitive issues and therefore the ability to be highly ethical and discreet
  • Ability to manage financial transactions and compile simple financial reports
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, occasional translation at meetings
  • Experience in administrative or programme support roles
  • Fluency in Thai and a high level of written and spoken English
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • An ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision

Working patterns:

This is a full time role - 36 hours/week, Monday – Thursday 08:00 – 16:30, Friday 08:00 – 14:00

We are currently operating a hybrid working pattern with at least 60% of the time being spent in the office.

The Embassy has a smarter working policy and is committed to offering flexible working patterns balanced with the operational requirements of the role. In crisis/emergency situations you may need to work as required to support the Embassy response, sometimes on a shift pattern, which may result in unsociable hours and/or weekend working.

This is a fixed term role of 12 months.
