Main purpose of job:  

This is a role working within the Chief Operating Officer’s (COO) Team, working with the Head of People, COO and various stakeholders in the South Asia Network and in London to ensure effective delivery of your role and to deliver the people elements of the Regional Trade Plan (RTP). You will possess excellent management, interpersonal and organisational skills.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:

The DIT South Asia Network covers 12 offices in four countries (India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal) with almost 120 staff. DIT’s role is to promote and encourage UK trade and investment into overseas markets and inward investment into the UK.

You will be accountable for ensuring that DIT South Asia has the capability and capacity to deliver the RTP. This includes:

  • Driving the network’s People Plan and related activities, including implementation of the leadership and management development plan (30%)
  • Promoting the implementation of the network’s Diversity and Inclusion Charter (20%)
  • Management and oversight of DIT South Asia recruitment processes (20%)
  • Updating organisational charts, managing and tracking the induction process, creating and updating induction products, and refining other HR systems and processes (20%)
  • Implementing innovative reward and recognition systems and processes (5%)
  • Contributing to cross network corporate initiatives (5%)

You will take a collaborative approach, getting buy in from, and working closely with, colleagues at all levels and locations in the network, ensuring the diversity of issues and views is taken into consideration.

Learning and Development

  • Updating, communicating and tracking the induction process for all new staff
  • Implementing the Learning and Development strategy, including looking at the network’s learning needs, and overseeing the delivery of L&D that meets the wider organisational objectives.
  • Engaging with key stakeholders across the network to promote, assist and encourage L&D completion and tracking.
  • Evaluate Learning and Development activities for their impact, while working closely with the Diplomatic academy regional team (DART).

Building Capability, Advice and Expertise

  • Working closely with the regional HR Hub, providing clear advice on HR issues and ensuring HR policies are consistently applied across the network.
  • Promoting inclusive recruitment practices, including in job descriptions and sift/interview processes
  • Implementing local actions to ensure attraction, recruitment and retention of high performing staff through a number of initiatives and campaigns.

Workforce and Talent

  • Working with senior management team to promote diversity and inclusion from the top
  • Working with the COO and Head of People to refine the network’s workforce planning.

Organisational Development

  • Play a key role in advancing staff survey outcomes, engaging with staff to promote positive change.
  • Develop and regularly report people metrics to Senior Management Team.

Resources managed (staff and expenditure):

No direct budget oversight or staff management. The jobholder will have access to funding to enable travel across the South Asia region and to implement HR & L&D initiatives.

Essential on Arrival:

Excellent team working skills, with strong ability to build co-operative working relationships across a large network, including outside of the DIT South Asia Network.

Recent human resources (HR) experience, including the development and implementation of HR-related strategies.

For British High Commission (BHC) candidates, the Local Staff BHC Terms & Conditions will apply. 

For other than BHC candidates, salary will be INR 63,333 per month plus 12% provident fund and 6% Superannuation fund.
