Security

The British Embassies in Abu Dhabi & Dubai both have vacancies for a Deputy Post Security Manager. This is for a fixed-term contract for one year. This is for two roles; one based in Abu Dhabi, and one based in Dubai.

The Deputy Post Security Managers will provide support to the Post Security Managers (PSM's) in Abu Dhabi and Dubai respectively and the Regional Overseas Security Manager (ROSM) in the delivery of effective safety and security measures at the British Embassy and UK based staff residences; appropriately mitigating and managing risk whilst ensuring the safety of staff and assets under normal working conditions, whilst preparing for times of crisis.

Duties and Responsibilities

General Security Management 

  • To assist the PSM/ROSM in planning and executing effective security strategy for embassy events and visits that ensures commensurate levels of security, balanced against threat and business need.
  • To assist the PSM/ROSM in conducting security risk assessments for external events and assist hosts in setting appropriate security posture.
  • To assist the PSM/ROSM in ensuring completion of Overseas Security Advisor (OSA) recommendations at Post.
  • Assist the PSM/ROSM in conducting security induction briefings and training within 5 days of arrival, for all new members of staff and UKB families.
  • To provide support for leave or absence periods of the PSM Abu Dhabi/Dubai as agreed with the ROSM and PSO.
  • To deputise for the PSM Abu Dhabi / Dubai as required.

Guard Force Management

  • To assist the PSM in managing a large contracted guard force providing a range of manned guarding duties to the embassy, ensuring security policy is adhered to and the operational effectiveness of all procedural, physical and technical security measures is maintained at all times.
  • To assist the PSM in administering the contracted guard force ensuring robust standing orders are up to date, appropriate and effective, and underpinned by regular training and practice drills.
  • To work with the PSM and liaise with the contractor’s management team through regular meetings to ensure acceptable guarding standards are maintained through regular monitoring of contract Key Performance Indicators. To also ensure that the contractor maintains appropriate standards of welfare and duty of care to the guards. To depuitise for the PSM in regular meetings with the Contact management team if the PSM/ROSM are unavailable.
  • To assist the PSM in ensuring effective manned guarding services with a particular emphasis on access control; person and vehicle search; patrolling; fire prevention; mail scanning; maintenance of occurrence book; incident reporting and incident response; protective surveillance; and exceptional customer service to visitors. 

Physical Security

  • Working with the PSM/ROSM and Estates Manager reguarly review and maintain the physical security of the Embassy and Residence grounds, identifying and dealing with issues quickly and effectively.
  • To assist the PSM/ROSM on maintenance projects of physical security measures in consultation with relevant partners and stakeholders and the embassy estates team.
  • To assist the PSM/ROSM in reviewing and, where necessary, implementing physical security upgrades to staff accommodation.

Technical Security

  • To assist the PSM with the Automated Access Control Systems (AACS), ID badge issue, issuing access privileges, and monitoring and reporting system faults.
  • Monitor and report issues with Closed Circuit Television (CCTV).
  • Assist the PSM in conducting and record weekly testing of alarm systems reporting any concerns to the PSM/ROSM/Secure Technical Services Officer (STSO).

Security Administration

  • To assist the PSM/ROSM in providing thorough security risk assessments and reports of all internal and external embassy events.
  • To assist the PSM in maintaining an accurate inventory of security equipment, ensuring all equipment is in satisfactory working order
  • To assist the PSM/ROSM as required in ensuring that regular security incident drills are conducted and that all staff are adequately briefed on procedures.
  • To conduct periodic out of hours inspections of the embassy to identify security breaches, reporting findings to the PSM/ROSM.
  • To provide administrative support to posts security and crisis committee’s.
  • To monitor and reply to all routine requests (e-mails and teams messages), sent to the security team, in a timely manner
  • To ensure all on site security signage and information boards and displays are kept up to date.

Generalist

  • To assist in managing incoming and outgoing diplomatic mail in line with FCDO guidance and policy.
  • Build strong and effective networks and relationships with all keys partners across government and internal stakeholders in the Embassy. 
  • To take an active role in the Embassy’s Crisis Management Plan and embassy response to incidents or emerging threats that may affect the embassy or UK nationals.
  • Any other tasks as directed by the PSM/ROSM/PSO Abu Dhabi/Dubai respectively to support the effective running of the security function.

The above list is not exhaustive, and the job holder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Embassy emergency planning and any response to a crisis.

  • Previous military, law enforcement or corporate security experience, or experience within a relevant field.
  • Ability to think rationally and take decisive action when under pressure and during challenging situations.
  • Good presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.  Able to express ideas and messages clearly and concisely
  • Ability to work quickly, reliably, and proactively with attention to detail and with limited supervision.
  • Strong IT computer skills and in using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams).

 

  • Holds a recognised security management qualification.
  • Preferably has worked in embassies/ foreign diplomatic missions, international organisations, or NGOs, or has had similar experience in a security environment.
  • Membership in security industry professional bodies (i.e., ASIS, Security Institute).
  • Previous experience of working for His Majesty’s Government (HMG).
  • Arabic language skills.

Working hours and remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role which includes 25 days of leave per annum (calculated pro-rata).

Salary is at AED 11,736 per month.

There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

The Embassy is open from Monday to Friday, from 07:30 to 18:00. Conditioned working hours are 35 hours per week and specific working hours for this role will be confirmed at a later time. The successful candidate may need to occasionally work outside of normal Embassy hours.

The successful candidate will be required to transfer their visa under the Embassy's sponsorship.
