The British Embassy in Rabat is looking for a dynamic team player to take up the position of an Intern Grade A1 (L) to start as soon as possible.

Main purpose of the job:

Two (2) positions are available to support a diverse range of work across the Embassy:

  1. One position will be in the Counter Terrorism (CT)/Security Team, working with a team of security specialists from across UK Government, to ensure all activity is accurately recorded to demonstrate that it is fully coordinated and aligned with UK strategic priorities.  In addition, the jobholder will be office manager for the team, ensuring that office restructuring requirements are met to support the smooth running of the team. 
  2. The second position is in the Political and Communications Team, which provides regular reporting to government departments in the UK and runs the British Embassy’s social media accounts and media engagement, as well as the organisation of Embassy events. The job holder will contribute to political reporting, leading on COVID-19 updates, and will work with the communications team on our year long 300th anniversary campaign, as well as supporting the Events Officer as we increase the number of face to face Embassy events.

The successful candidates will be good team players who are adaptable, organised and good communicators, able to engage with teams across the Embassy.  

Main duties and responsibilities:

Counter Terrorism (CT) / Security:

  • Develop and maintain a CT/Security activity tracking tool and forward look register, including details of progress made, stakeholder engagement and costs, using IT packages such as MS Excel.
  • Office Manager for the CT/Security Team, supporting a project to restructure office space and making sure requirements are met to ensure the smooth running of the team, including responding to stationery requests.
  • Supporting the Embassy’s crisis preparedness work by ensuring relevant documents are kept up-to-date and the training roster is maintained and implemented.
  • General administrative tasks, such as, responding to email enquiries.

Political and Communications:

  • Lead on COVID-19 reporting, building the relevant knowledge and contacts to do so.
  • Contribute to brainstorming sessions for the 300th anniversary campaign and develop photographic and video material and messages for use on the British Embassy’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts, as well as working on face to face events linked to the anniversary.
  • Create a contacts database for the Embassy, drawing on existing Microsoft Excel records and adapting to a bespoke system, before introducing processes to ensure data is kept up to date.
  • Administrative support to the political team, such as setting up meetings, translation and preparing formal correspondence for engagement with ministries.

The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required.

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non negotiable gross salary of MAD 8,398 per month, inclusive of all allowances. However, employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount. The package includes a good level of medical insurance, 21 days of annual leave per annum (on pro rata basis) plus 14 public holidays, access to on-site swimming pool, tennis court and gym facilities.

This is a part-time role based on 28 hours per week, on a fixed term basis for six (6) months.

Working hours are from Monday – Thursday 9:00 – 15:30, Friday 9:00 – 13:00. The Embassy encourages flexible working, subject to operational need and line manager’s approval. Independent working will be tested as a competence in interviews.

The Embassy has a strong commitment to learning and development and all staff are required to agree a learning and development plan with their line manager.
