The British Embassy, Doha has a vacancy for a Regional Manager for Invest Northern Ireland, grade C4 (L). This post will report directly into the Head of Territory, India Middle East and Africa, Invest Northern Ireland in Dubai. The primary purpose of the post is to provide support for the areas of Qatar, Kuwait and Iran to the support the objectives of Invest Northern Ireland in the wider IMEA Region.

IMEA is a key trade and investment market for Northern Ireland. The regional office in Qatar was opened within the British Embassy in April 2017 and since that date has achieved key successes both in terms of trade for Northern Ireland companies entering the local market, and also for investment back into Northern Ireland from the region.

Main Purpose of the Job:

The post-holder will be Invest Northern Ireland’s key representative in the region. The primary focuses of the position will be trade development across all key business sectors, helping Northern Ireland companies to increase export sales to the region, to promote Northern Ireland as a location for inward investment, and to raise Northern Ireland’s profile for commercial, education and tourism purposes.

When carrying out his / her work, the post-holder will be required to forge effective working relationships with a wide range of businesses, stakeholders, senior officials and government representatives. The post-holder is also expected to undertake travel on a regular basis, either within the region, to the UK or other countries.

The post-holder will co-ordinate activities such as marketing events, trade missions, inward visits and conferences, represent Invest Northern Ireland at these events and speak at them as needed. They will submit monthly returns and activity reports, summarise information for the Head of IMEA, prepare reports for Northern Ireland companies (market research, location reports or product reports) and provide advice to these companies. The post holder will also be required to monitor expenditure and deliver activities within a pre-allocated budget. The post holder will also work closely with the wider Invest Northern Ireland teams based in its Belfast headquarters, IMEA region and other locations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Proactively identify relevant business opportunities for Northern Ireland companies through market intelligence, connections and research and promote the Northern Ireland capability to key decision makers;

• Develop strong C-level relationships with targeted companies, stakeholders and influencers in the region and enable Northern Ireland companies to engage with them;

• Build strong relationships within the British Embassy, DIT and other key stakeholders and where appropriate work on joint planning and delivery of events;

• Support Northern Ireland companies interested in the region by providing information they require to make informed business decisions by handling market research and assessment enquiries, conducting visits and setting up appointments and writing appropriate reports;

• Oversee and manage in-market support for company visits, trade missions, events and exhibitions;

• Locally co-ordinate VIP (including Ministerial delegations) visit programmes and arrange all necessary logistics and protocols;

• Develop a market strategy for the region to promote Northern Ireland capability which contributes to the overall goals of the territory;

• Engage effectively with colleagues and stakeholders based in Northern Ireland to provide market and sector briefings and to ensure that activity in the market aligns with corporate plans;

• Develop a network of Northern Ireland ex-pats living/working in the region and work with NI Connections to lever economic returns to Northern Ireland;

• Manage relevant information sources and maintain accurate recording of customer and stakeholder information on Invest Northern Ireland’s CRM and management systems.

• A significant, recent and successful track record in business development in the Middle East region, including experience of undertaking market research, analysing market data, identifying trade opportunity, preparing reports and presenting information to clients.

• Experience of the Qatar business environment and the business opportunities across the key business sectors in the country, being aware of the issues relating to doing business in Qatar.

• A strong business network in Qatar the region and experience of developing and maintaining effective working relationships at senior levels in business with excellent communication skills and an ability to work collaboratively with business contacts and colleagues.

• Knowledge of the Kuwait and Iran key business sectors and economic drivers.

• The ability to work at pace and independently as part of a remote team; and prioritise, managing an often heavy workload.

• Excellent written and spoken English.

• Strong IT computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office and Internet.

• Knowledge of Northern Ireland, particularly an understanding of its key sectors and economic drivers.

Working Hours and Remuneration:

The British Embassy offers an attractive working environment and competitive remuneration package for this role, including: non-negotiable salary of QAR 22,590 per calendar month and transportation allowance of QAR 800 per calendar month; a leave entitlement of 25 working days rising to 30 working days; and access to training. This is a full time, fixed term contract for two years (renewable).

No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

Embassy working hours are 7.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. Sunday to Wednesday and 7.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. on Thursday. This position is offered on a full-time basis and due to time difference with the UK, the post-holder may be required to work flexibly and some evenings in order to meet deadlines or attend conference calls.

The successful candidate will need to commence security clearance procedures through the Embassy.

Eligibility:

Applicants must already reside in Qatar and hold the right to live and work in the country, including those either under spouse sponsorship or be able to transfer an existing sponsorship to the British Embassy.
