The British Embassy in Paris is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are looking for a Politics, Engagement and Public Affairs Support Officer, to ensure smooth running of the Politics, Engagement and Public Affairs (PEP) section of the Embassy, contributing to building Franco-British relations at an important, and fascinating, time in both countries.

The Section consists of teams covering domestic politics, VIP visits, outreach and marketing, and media relations so the variety and opportunity to learn is considerable. The same is true of the Embassy as a whole, which in addition to being a great place to work offers considerable support for both individual and team development. The ideal candidate will be a real team player, with excellent people skills, a knack for organisation and project management, and be motivated to make a real contribution to cross-Channel relations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Section Leadership: With the Head of Section to ensure the smooth administrative running of PEP, a strong collective identity and sense of mission as well as best in class corporate and knowledge management.

  • Supporting Networks: To manage invitations for the section for the Embassy’s most high profile events, covering political and media personalities and advising on handling. To manage contacts and diary for the Head of Section and contacts for others where appropriate, identifying useful networking opportunities and setting up meetings. To provide other administrative support as necessary.

  • Supporting Regional Links: To work with the members of the Domestic Politics team to coordinate and deliver an ambitious programme of regional engagement around France, constructing programmes but also advising on potential local opportunities.

  • Budget Management: To be the lead officer for the Section’s budget, monitoring allocations and spend and ensuring the Head of Section is up to date and that decisions on re-prioritisation are taken in good time.

  • Project Management and Team Support: To lead specific bilateral projects across the section’s work managing budgets and stakeholders as appropriate. To spend time working in each of PEP’s teams at times of high pressure, ranging from days to cover leave through to much longer periods.

  • Excellent organisational and IT skills.

  • Ease with contacting new people and tenacity in pursuit of goals.

  • Excellent French and English.

This is a full-time position for a fixed-term contract of 12 months with possibility of extension.
