MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB


The Press & Public Affairs Officer will support the Head of Political, Press, and Public Affairs (PPPA) in implementing a high impact communications strategy to support the work of all teams at the Consulate.


The PPA Officer will also develop and deliver high impact projects, events and visit programmes including associated administration and budget management. The British Consulate Atlanta PPA team is part of the British Government’s US network led by the Embassy in Washington DC.


 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Deliver digital media and communication strategy. This will include working closely with the Embassy communications team to implement media and communications campaigns, monitor social media, update the Consulate website and social media platforms, and ensure that all online content is accurate and updated on a timely basis.

  • Generate dynamic digital media content through visual story-telling for publication on social media outlets (e.g. Twitter, Facebook) in service of the Consulate and US Network mission.

  • Contribute to the development of a comprehensive communications plan, and develop unique communications plans for individual departments and events.

  • Organise visit programmes including developing content in line with UK priorities and preparing briefings for incoming VIPs.

  • Coordinate events including building guest-lists of high-influence contacts, working with suppliers, and handling logistics.

  • Respond to public enquiries, maintain information and contact databases, monitor project budgets, compile reports

  • Provide administrative support and outreach for activities surrounding the Marshall Scholarship. Work with other British Consulates across the network to develop and deliver a strategy for engaging America’s next generation of leaders

  • Where appropriate, assist the Head of PPPA with reporting and lead on thematic areas of work (e.g. political engagement)




  • Relevant education (e.g. communications or international relations), work, or internship experience and strong writing skills.

  • Knowledge of the political and economic media coverage in the Southeast USA.

  • Fully versed in Microsoft Office version 7.0, Apple software, Photoshop, and social media applications (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram).

  • Superior research skills with the ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure.

  • Excellent communications skills with a positive, creative, team attitude.

  • Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively across departments

  • Astute attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Photography experience

  • Copy editing experience

  • Digital analytics experience
