We are recruiting one or more Commercial and Administrative Assistants to provide administrative and commercial support to the Director and Deputy Director of the Department for International Trade at the British Embassy, Colombia. The main objective of the jobholder will be to support the Director and Deputy Director, as well as the DIT Team, in operational management of the office.   The job holder will also support commercial activities including acting as point of contact, undertaking sector research and general support for inward and outward missions.

The jobholder will report to the Director of DIT.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Support the creation, development and implementation of standardised processes of the DIT Colombia strategy.
  • Support the DIT Director on regionalisation plans, including performance management of other Latin American DIT offices.
  • Support new recruitment processes, internal and external communications and the arrangement of activities that involve all DIT staff.
  • Provide support for briefings, speeches, presentations, correspondence, and translations, following FCO and DIT templates and forms.
  • Provide support in other administrative tasks such as diary organisation, transport and travel arrangements, and call answering, organisation of activity/event programme, overall logistic support for visits and missions.
  • Support commercial business development and planning for a specified sector.
  • Support the efficient delivery of business opportunities in a specified sector by providing research and analysis, to help identify new business opportunities; acting as initial point of contact between DIT and key stakeholders.
  • Provide cross-cutting support to the DIT team (and other Embassy sections if needed) as required and perform other tasks as requested by the Director and Deputy Director of DIT.

 



Language:  Advanced command of written and spoken English and Spanish (Spanish and English testing will be given during interview stage).

Level of language required: High Level Working Level English and Spanish (At least C1 level under CEFR)

Essential on arrival:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Finance, Government and International Relations, International Business (or comparable experience).

  • 0-2 years professional experience.
  • Financial and budgetary knowledge and experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.



  • Experience in international organisations and/or diplomatic missions.
  • Experience providing administrative support.
  • Experience working across organisational barriers.

Net working hours 35 per week i.e. Mon-Thu 08:30 – 17:00 with an hour lunch break and Fri 08:30-13.30 allowing for a good work/life balance. Some flexibility will be required during periods of exceptional workload.
