The Department for International Trade leads for the United Kingdom Government on international business development, transatlantic trade development between the UK and the US and with assisting US companies looking to invest in the UK. (See www.gov.uk/DIT for further information.)

 

Within British Embassies and Consulates around the USA, the Department for International Trade has 138 members of staff spread across 9 locations, forming a dynamic team that focuses on various sectors including advanced engineering, technology, financial services, life sciences, food & drink and energy & environment. Working closely with our Headquarters teams in London, regional and local colleagues, representatives of the three Devolved Administrations of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, with a key objective of driving transatlantic trade and foreign investment into the UK.

 

The advertised role supports the Director General, DIT USA and British Consul General in her DIT activities and to deliver high level events and VIP visits across the US.

 

Based at the British Consulate General, New York the successful applicant will be competent engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders. We’re looking for someone who is excited by the opportunity to help the DIT Director General in her external activities and engage with visiting British Government Ministers, CEOs and other VIPs.

 

The successful candidate will be required to attend official functions outside of office hours, and undertake domestic (US) travel as well as some international travel.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leading the DIT effort in relation to DIT-focused VIP and Ministerial visits as required, including creating and updating the programme and briefing and acting as the single point of contact for all stakeholders.
  • Producing high quality and accurate briefing for DIT-related activity by the Director General US network-wide. Liaising with the relevant DIT account managers as required for input.
  • Responsible for the development and execution of all DIT related events involving the Director General.
    • Strategically identify and securing speakers or special guests
    • Liaison with venues and all other associated logistics
    • Liaising with marketing to promote the event and agree social media outreach
  • Forging strong relationships with US and UK business leaders, Ministerial Private Offices and other key partners.
  • Supporting wider DIT cross-cutting activities and projects as tasked by DIT senior Leadership team in New York.
  • Contribute to cross-Consulate activities including Consular emergencies.

The successful candidate will be required to attend official functions outside of office hours, and undertake domestic (US) travel up to 5-10% of the time, as well as some international travel.

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree.
  • 6 – 8 years+ relevant work experience.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills. Attention to detail.
  • Ability to project-manage large scale events
  • Strong communication skills, especially in producing high quality written comms
  • The ability to work in a closely-knit team towards shared goals, as well as in a global virtual team environment.

Under US State Department requirements, the Embassy may only employ, as non-diplomatic staff, persons who are US citizens, US Green Card holders or A or NATO visa holders with EAD cards*.
