Main purpose of job:

  • Driving
  • Fleet Management (ensure the vehicle is suitable for task, clean inside and outside of the vehicle and know basic mechanical work for the car such as changing tires, jump start vehicle and changing light bulbs etc.)
  • Customer Service (assist with logistic support for Defence Section personnel, be on time and understand the use of technology such as SATNAV and Google Maps).

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Able to drive safely in the city, difficult terrain (such as jungle and hillside), and in all weather conditions.
  • Able to conduct daily vehicle checks and maintain the vehicle’s condition with good care and cleanliness both inside and out.
  • Understand rules and regulations for road safety and hold legal documents for driving.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date vehicle logs, maintenance sheets, fuel purchases, incident reports, accident reports, and other records as requested by the management.
  • Able to communicate with basic English and use basic technology such as Google Maps and Share Location option on instant messaging applications such as Line and WhatsApp.
  • Able to work flexible hours, fulfil tasks during the weekend and able to spend some nights away from Bangkok.
  • Fuel the vehicle.
  • Coordinate the schedule for major or periodic vehicle maintenance with management in order to minimise service interruptions.
  • Respond immediately to accidents or medical emergencies by notifying emergency response providers and rendering First Aid until emergency personnel arrive.
  • Operate a communications radio (training will be provided).

Resources managed (staff and expenditure):

Defence Section Driver must understand the importance of submitting expenditure documents in time and recording the distance and times for the monthly reports. The driver is responsible in keeping the receipts of the toll ways for reimbursement.

Essential on arrival: 

  • High School degree minimum
  • Hold legal driving license in date and no criminal record
  • 5 - 10 years driving experiences
  • Basic reading, listening and speaking skills in English language
  • Experience in driving for senior officials and familiarity with Military and Government premises are very desirable. Non-Smoker preferred.

The British Embassy offers a competitive remuneration package, including salary (will be abated for those not liable to tax), benefits, a leave entitlement, Health Insurance and comprehensive development programme based upon business need and individual staff requirements. 

The successful candidate will work for an average of 38.5 hours per week. However, given the nature of this job, occasional weekend work or work outside of normal office hours, usually at night is expected. Overtime is paid for all out of hours work. The normal working hour starts at 0730 and finishes at 1630 from Monday – Thursday but finishes at 1300 on Friday. If the driver is required to drive long distance, he / she will have break every 4 hours and overnight downtime of 8 hours according to UK Ministry of Defence driving regulations.

The driver will obtain professional driving training (regular training with other Embassy drivers).

The driver is able to request for training / course that fits the development of his / her performance.  

Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment and security checks. Staff who are locally recruited by the British Embassy are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local employment law.

The British Embassy will be relocated to the AIA Sathorn Tower, South Sathorn Road, Bangkok around September 2020.
