Main purpose of job:


To provide overall management of a system which delivers high quality, timely IT support to both DFID and FCO (British High Commission) systems with clear information to users on what other help is available, with the help desk as users first port of call, and prioritizing of work. The successful candidate will be responsible to line manage an ITSO and assistant ITSO ensuring prioritization of work schedule in line with the IT policy.


 


Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:


  • The IT manager’s role is to provide overall management of a system which delivers high quality, timely IT support to both DFID and FCO  ( British High Commission)systems with clear information to users on what other help is available, with helpdesk as users first port of call, and prioritization of work.
  • S/he will be responsible to line manage an ITSO and Assistant ITSO ensuring prioritization of work schedules in line with the IT policy. 
  • S/he will  be responsible for the monitoring of IT works request and recognize early when there is n S/he need to escalate calls with London if progress is not happening quickly.
  • S/he must be able to take the lead with clear communication skills and in messaging to users on delivery.
  • The IT manager has overall responsibility for the  support of all IT services within the BHC and DFID Sierra Leone offices, by ensuring the availability and reliability of the IS infrastructure i.e. file servers, PCs, printers, e-mail, data communication links, cabling infrastructure, UPS and telephony. 
  • S/he is responsible for managing the local IT budget, as well as offering technical advice and guidance to the office in the form of training, security and guidance on available helpdesk facility. 
  • S/he will be required to work closely with the DFID Regional IT Manager and FCO Regional Technical Support Service Officers as well as HQ on the implementation of new or upgraded systems.


 

  • Fluency in spoken and written English language.
  • A First degree in computer science or any engineering discipline or related field or relevant work experience.  
  • The individual must have a flair for working with IT systems.
  • A Microsoft or Cisco certification will be an added advantage    

 

  • Candidate with previous experience in managing IT system in a large organisation, diplomatic mission, international organisation or NGO will be at an advantage. Individuals with a minimum of 1-2 years experience in IT will be considered
  • Good knowledge of windows operating systems, especially Microsoft applications including Microsoft Exchange and the use of Microsoft office tools like word, excel, power-point Vision and projects.
  • Hands on experience in the installation of IT hardware and software
  • Good Organisational skills.
  • The IT manager will be a confident self-starter, with excellent problem solving and customer service skills with competences in Leading and communicating, managing a quality service, Building capability for all, demonstrating resilience, changing and improving.
  • Good time management including the ability to prioritise and effectively manage and execute multiple tasks to a high standard either as an individual or team effort.

The successful candidate will receive training on both the FCO and DFID UK Government IT systems.
