The Bangkok visa section processes approximately 100,000 visa applications per year from applicants in Thailand, Vietnam, Burma, Laos and Cambodia. Our objective is to deliver a world class visa service that supports economic growth and keeps the UK safe and secure.

Each visa application is processed in accordance with the Immigration Rules, government policy and UKVI’s customer service & border security targets. The Enrichment Manager role is a key management position responsible for ensuring that all applications processed within visa section are handled, identified by their relative immigration risk (harm or otherwise to the UK Border) and processed accordingly.

The Enrichment Manager is responsible for a team of 5 Enrichment Assistants who undertake interviews with visa applicants and verify the authenticity of documents submitted by applicants. The Enrichment manager is also responsible for ensuring that the correct cases are routed into the Enrichment team, the relevant checks / interviews are undertaken and that 100% of cases leave the Enrichment team within tight service standards. The Enrichment Manager is also responsible for analysing findings and identifying trends, acting upon threats within the visa caseload and trouble-shooting individual cases.

This is a pressured B3 role that sets significant demands upon the post holder. The post holder will require demonstrable strengths in process and people management; personal ability to deliver under significant operational pressure and multi-task competing, demanding and resource intensive processes – whilst simultaneously managing a team and engaging with internal and external customers – including RALON, other foreign missions and FCO in South East Asia. There may need to be occasional travel to Vietnam.

You will report to the Entry Clearance Manager with responsibility for immigration risk.

The line management aspect of the job is important – as is the development of the Enrichment team. Your role will be to lead the team; ensuring workloads are adjusted on a daily basis according to visa demand.

You will need strong IT skills – in particular in Excel (must be able to set up, pivot and data-mine Excel) and be completely comfortable using Microsoft Office and web-based applications.

You will need a clear vision of the purpose of this role and a close eye to detail. You will also have the ability to successfully manage and develop people.  Your skill in managing the “journey” made by applications, both strategically and in detail, will be core to your success. UKVI has an ethos of continuous improvement and you will play an important part in developing and improving Bangkok’s procedures. This is a high volume, fast moving environment that requires strong skills and experience set. 


Work objectives:

  1.  Manage and develop team & individuals: Lead & manage UKVI's Enrichment Team effectively to ensure consistent performance & delivery. Identify development and L&D needs, including cross-training to support staff rotation. Give and receive constructive feedback to enhance continuous improvement. Set clear direction & regularly engage with staff. Manage under performance & attendance.
  2. To be consistently competent by: Managing and delivering  UKVI's enrichment, verification and interview activities; Ensuring Risk Streaming maps are consistently up to date and meet Enrichment-Framework; Detecting and deterring visa abuse; Identifying & mitigating risk trends and pattern; Streamlining processes to reduce processing times and volumes; Maintaining robust statistics.
  3. To be customer focused by: Ensuring that all applications & customers are handled professionally; Processing 100% of  applications within service & priority standards; Ensuring Enrichment activity adds value to visa decision making; Representing UKVI and the embassy professionally with all  partners; Acting in accordance with the Code of Conduct at all times
  4.  To be high performing by:  Supporting & delivering UKVI transformation, Enrichment  exercises  and IT reporting tool change; Proactively identifying areas for improvement; Ensure 100% proviso accuracy& data protection across Enrichment Team; Work in partnership will all DMC managers  to deliver whole-team delivery objectives sharing and flexing resources according to visa demand .

This vacancy has arisen during UKVI’s peak season when operation demands are at their highest. The post holder will therefore require the following essential experience to make an immediate impact and ensure business continuity:

  • A demonstrable ability, or strong potential, to lead, performance-manage and develop a team of staff
  • A thorough knowledge of MS Office applications – in particular Excel
  • Excellent communication skills in English  – with the ability to handle challenging conversations with internal and external stakeholders
  • A background, or strong potential, of using sound personal judgement to make accurate decisions based on interpreting evidence and within a rules based environment.
  • A proven track record of changing & improving; in particular with regard to internal-assurance and compliance checking
  • An ability to handle large volumes of data with accuracy & confidence
  • Thai language – verbal
  • A track record of successful personal delivery in a high volume and pressured working environment
  • An understanding of immigration decision making

The British Embassy offers a competitive remuneration package, including salary, benefits, a leave entitlement, Health Insurance and full training. The job is linked to the British Embassy’s Local Staff B3 grade. For those not liable to tax the salary will be abated. 

This role will be offered on permanent local engaged staff terms and conditions. The role is however time limited and it is expected to end in June 2018. Should this date change, the successful applicant would be given a minimum of three months notice of such a change.
