The British Embassy in Washington, DC is seeking a General Maintenance Worker to join our Estates Team. The Estates team is responsible for the maintenance and building work for the Embassy and all of the Embassy’s residential properties. This is an excellent opportunity for a self-starter interested in beginning a career with an outstanding organisation.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
• Perform & Assist with general repairs to include: woodwork, drywall, painting, plastering, locksmith duties, minor plumbing, general cleaning of compound and other areas.
• Respond to residential and building service calls.
• Complete aspects of minor refurbishment project work.
• Provide assistance to other maintenance workers. Support contractors on large-scale project work.
• Set-up of Conference rooms for events.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• A minimum of 2 years practical maintenance experience is required. While the main emphasis of this position will be residential maintenance, a variety of experiences would be welcomed.
• Good customer service and communication skills are essential.
• Basic IT skills (data entry).
• Must be able to lift a moderate amount of weight.
• Must have a valid drivers' licence.

Under US State Department requirements, the Embassy may only employ, as non-diplomatic staff, persons who are US citizens, US Green Card holders or A Visa holders. If you hold a Visa other than an A Visa you are not currently eligible to work at the Embassy. All candidates will be subject to security clearances and background checks.
