The British Embassy in Spain is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now recruiting for the position of Immigration Liaison Assistant, Home Office International Operations, based in Madrid.

Why should you apply? You will provide administrative and organisational support to the Immigration Liaison Manager (ILM) and Immigration Liaison Officers (ILO) as necessary. You will contribute to the wider objectives of the British Government’s Spain and Portugal networks and to support the Embassies’ positive working environment by becoming part of the British Government’s presence in Spain and Portugal, which aims to support and foster them and their work. Roles and responsibilities:

- Experience of working in an international/multilateral environment;
- Previous administrative experience;
- Basic knowledge of UK and Spanish government/civil service structures;
- Previous experience or knowledge of the travel industry, aviation and/or security sectors;
- Basic knowledge of Portuguese language.
This is an (AO) grade, full-time permanent contract. The working hours are 37.5 hours per week.
The successful candidate is subject to a confirmation of a background check, security clearance and the successful completion of a probationary period.
The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Spanish Social Security Scheme and will therefore not be entitled to any gratuity from the Embassy based on gross annual salary.
The Embassy is a Diplomatic Mission with tax exempt status and does not collect taxes for other States. Employees are fully responsible for payment of income tax at the legally required rate. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Spain are subject to terms and conditions of service according to local Spanish employment law.
Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Spain and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
