From supporting a British Minister through traditional media interviews on UK policy, to planning how to convince young people to study in the UK, this is a diverse job.  The Press & Communications Team plays a key role in enhancing the profile and reputation of the British Embassy, and the UK as a whole. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled communicator and influencer.  Our Press & Communications Manager role is part of a dynamic team, working across key events, with the opportunity to mix with high profile Embassy contacts. The role calls for somebody who understands the benefits of planning long term, but who can also react quickly when circumstances demand. You will need to be well connected to traditional media, knowing what makes journalists tick, and how to manage their expectations, but also be competent on digital platforms and know how to get your messages to different audiences. You will be the lead on press and communications for the whole embassy, being the expert who helps the different teams to reach their customers; planning communications, promoting our projects and preparing for crises. 

 

You will work as a collaborative member of the political and projects team. Your responsibilities will include:

 

Press/Media – Leading on the Embassy’s relationship with media contacts; accompanying the Ambassador and other senior Embassy staff to press conferences and media interviews; working with the Consular teams to assist them in their task of helping British Nationals; building and maintaining the Embassy’s key media contacts; delivering high impact messaging to showcase the United Kingdom in the Philippines; maintaining the Embassy’s and Ambassador’s high and positive media profiles; creating and implementing a media/ communications plan on a weekly basis encompassing embassy priorities; working with colleagues and partners to maximise communications opportunities; working closely with the FCO Press Office in London; producing press reviews, and evaluation of media impact; drafting press releases, speeches and articles for the media; finding innovative media and communications techniques to reach new audiences; playing a key role in the Embassy’s GREAT campaign; monitoring media channels and alerting policy officers about relevant content; and contributing to internal embassy communications. Media monitoring is a round the clock role, and occasionally some work will be required at weekends.

 

Digital –  Ensuring the Embassy’s digital profile is effective and achieving its goals, maintaining a high quality of digital output in the face of conflicting demands and priorities when required (channels include Gov.UK website, Embassy’s intranet, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts). You will line management the Scholarships and Digital Diplomacy Officer, and will also cover that role during periods of absence, including monitoring, developing and posting content.

  • Proven experience working in the press/media field and an active interest in Philippine and global current affairs, and demonstrate awareness of the role of the UK
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) in both English and Tagalog
  • Highly organised with an eye for detail
  • Ability to write structured plans
  • Ability to manage self and others, and demonstrate proactivity
  • Work effectively and efficiently with colleagues to meet deadlines, prioritising workloads as required
  • Be able to contribute to a dynamic team
  • Imaginative, creative and passionate
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and Adobe Photoshop

The job will involve occasional travel, both within the Philippines and to other countries.

 

The British Embassy offers a competitive compensation package, 36-hour work week, guaranteed 13th and 14th month pay, 20 days paid annual leave (calculated on a pro-rata basis if the service period is less than one full year), extensive medical insurance, life insurance and access to a guaranteed 5 days of learning opportunities a year.

 

No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. You must have work authorisation in the Philippines in order to apply.
