Security

Working to the Regional Overseas Security Manager (ROSM), the Post Security Manager (PSM) is responsible for the day to day security of the British High Commission in Singapore. The successful applicant will act as the main liaison point of the High Commission's security management team and the Facilities Management team. The PSM will provide a first point of contact for all security matters and implement commensurate security solutions.

The PSM will be required to provide first rate professional security advice to all staff. In addition, they will also be responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of a robust health & safety programme and manage the provision of transport at Post.

The PSM role requires an individual who can demonstrate strengths in stakeholder engagement, both internally and externally. The role calls for a confident, articulate person who can project presence, but also someone who can display empathy and calmness under pressure. Credibility, honesty, and integrity play a central part to the PSM role.


Roles and responsibilities:

— Security management

  • Day to day management of the security of the High Commission and security guards.
  • Provide security advice in response to prevailing security threats/ alerts.
  • Ensure all staff meet their security responsibilities conscientiously.
  • Assist in security clearances for new staff.
  • Carry out performance risk and vulnerability assessments for events and visits to ensure the proportionate safety and security measures are in place.
  • Be the point of contact for local security projects under the guidance of the ROSM/ Corporate Services Team.
  • Carry out regular emergency drills and security training for staff.
  • Establish and maintain contacts across the local security community and develop a network of contacts with other embassies, law enforcement, and corporate organisations.
  • Be part of the High Commission’s crisis management plans and take part in crisis exercises as and when required.
  • Manage the incoming/ outgoing diplomatic mail process.
  • Escort uncleared staff or contractors, as required.

— Health & safety

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a health & safety strategy and plans to support employees.
  • Identify and report any hazards, risks, or incidents.
  • Be the first point of contact for health & safety issues that arise.
  • Ensure all staff receive adequate training and instructions on emergencies and procedures.
  • Induct new staff on health & safety issues, carry out ergonomic assessments.

— Transport

  • Manage day to day transport requests from staff, work with drivers to manage schedules.
  • Provide transport plans for visits.
  • Oversee the maintenance and management of the fleet of vehicles.
  • At least three years of experience in security management in corporate, military/ government sectors, or other relevant experience.
  • Experience of working in a demanding environment, with an ability to demonstrate investigative strategies to deal with relevant tasks.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively (both verbal and written) to staff and other external parties, including law enforcement organisations.
  • Proven record of strong problem solving skills backed by sound judgement, discretion, and diplomacy.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Full driving licence.

  • Normal working hours are 37.5 per week: 8.30 am to 5.00 pm from Monday to Friday. There will be a requirement for occasional and limited out of hours work around major events and visits.
  • Monthly gross salary from SGD 3,633 up to SGD 4,178 (dependent on skills and experience) + CPF/ CPF-in-lieu, with pro-rated 13th and 14th month pay
  • 23 days paid annual leave (will be pro-rated on the first year) 
  • Childcare leave (up to a maximum of 6 days per year, dependent upon age of children)
