Housekeeper

The British Embassy in Riga is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Housekeeper.

As a full-time member of Embassy team you will be responsible for overall cleanliness and upkeep of the Ambassador's Official Residence, Ambassadors' private quarters, entertaining spaces, guest rooms and service areas.

You will also be doing laundry and ironing; preparing the Official Residence for, and serving during, receptions; and doing a number of supporting tasks.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Housekeeping and cleaning responsibility. Tending to household needs as they appear. Keeping all areas of the Residence clean to a high standard - official and private. This involves laundry, changing bed-linens, polishing shoes, cleaning all surfaces, bathrooms, floors, lamps, mirrors etc.;
  • Responsible for plants, flower arrangements and seasonal decorations;
  • Ensuring the Residence is maintained in high representational standard, remains in good working order, and reporting faults where appropriate;
  • Responsible for the stock of housekeeping items and cleaning supplies. Accounting for spend;
  • Preparing the official Residence for events, coordinating furniture moves, setting table for meals and serving drinks, food. Arranging, coordinating external waiting staff for larger events. Greeting and serving guests and visitors;
  • Complying with the Health & Safety standards and procedures. Regularly disinfecting high traffic areas;
  • Other responsibilities, including mandatory training, back-up cover, and crisis responsibility.
  • Basic working level knowledge of English and Intermediate Latvian;
  • At least 1 year of experience in housekeeping, and/or catering;
  • Basic IT skills (MS Office, Windows);
  • Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills. Responsive to customer needs and able to treat others with respect and courtesy regardless of work pressures;
  • Has a high standard of personal presentation;
  • Able to work effectively and supportively with colleagues, both individually and in a team;
  • Able to act with discretion at all times;
  • Able to effectively self-organise, prioritise and a proven ability to work under pressure;
  • Keen attention to detail.

  • Previous relevant working experience in an international standard hotel, diplomatic residence or equivalent;
  • Experience in maintaining inventories.

This is a full-time, permanent position with a 3 month probation.

Work pattern 8 hours/day (Overtime, night hours, weekend work may apply) / 40 hours/week on average. Working time may vary depending on events at the Residence.
