The British Embassy in Bucharest is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is looking to recruit a Regional Lead of the Central European Network (CEN) High Value Campaign on Nuclear Energy and Deputy Head of Department of International Trade (DIT) Section. The Central European Network (CEN) covers 10 countries (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Serbia), and comprises a dynamic market of over 100 million consumers.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Strategic planning of DIT’s work on nuclear activity in the CEN Region + Finland (managing the pipeline in HVC nuclear and other targets at regional level, campaign risk file, etc.) and especially with the DIT Teams based at the British Embassies in Romania, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovenia and Finland;
  • Develop successful relationships as the CEN’s Key account manager within the UK and with major clients;
  • Project management of campaign events and activities, leading other members of the regional team and supporting the organisation of local initiatives and projects;
  • Manage and monitor the campaign budget (inc. travel expenditures for the entire region);
  • Line management of a Senior trade adviser (B3(L)) in Bucharest; and countersigning responsibilities for 2 A2s (L)
  • Quarterly and Annual reporting to CEN Board and the Department for International Trade’s Headquarters in London on Campaign performance-related issues;
  • Local lead on other CEN sectors (e.g. airports, rail and conventional energy);
  • As one of two deputy heads, support the Head of DIT Romania in leading DIT Romania – leading on budgets and DIT Business Planning.
  • At least 5 years experience of working in a commercial environment;
  • A record of delivering commercial results;
  • Strong team leadership skills, with the ability to bring diverse teams together to work toward common goals;
  • Strategic commercial and economic awareness;
  • An innovative attitude especially towards customer service and performance management;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Proven ability to develop relationships with customers and stakeholders;
  • Fluency in English and Romanian, both oral and written is essential;
  • Strong IT computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office and Internet.
  • Experience of working in (or with) the nuclear sector or a related field in energy or engineering is highly desirable;
  • An up to date understanding of the nuclear industry in the region
  • Experience with Oracle systems and databases preferred;
  • Previous work experience in trade/marketing department promoting products or services with major clients;
  • Finance experience desirable in forecasting budget for events.

Terms and Conditions

This is a full-time position of 5 days (35 hours net per week) for a 1 year contract which may be extended by a mutual agreement. Working hours are flexible and staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for agreed extra hours worked.

The annual leave entitlement is 21 days per year pro rata and the Embassy also enjoys a maximum of 14 Romanian / UK public holidays per year.

Monthly salary is 8362 RON gross. In addition, staff are entitled to a 13th month salary pro rata and may receive a performance related bonus at year end. Staff also receive meal vouchers and a monthly subscription to a medical centre.

The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance, and satisfactory completion of a probationary period of 45 days.
