The successful candidate will join a regional team working at the forefront of the fight against organised crime, tax fraud and international money laundering. Reporting to the UK’s Diplomatically accredited HM Revenue & Customs Fiscal Crime Liaison Officer, the jobholder will provide the essential office support functions to enable the Fiscal Crime Liaison Officer and regional team to operate effectively.

 

The Assistant to the Fiscal Crime Liaison Officer (FCLO) will play a pivotal role in facilitating the flow of data between UK-based investigators and key partners within Hong Kong’s law-enforcement community. They will manage incoming enquiries linked to criminal investigations and make formal requests for assistance from host agencies. They will compile and disseminate intelligence reports for UK investigating teams, taking into account case priorities, sensitivities and requirements of UK legislation.

 

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate excellent organisational skills and a practical approach to multi-taking and problem solving, as well as the ability to quickly grasp complex legal issues. They will develop an understanding of HM Revenue & Customs strategic priorities on fiscal crime and how we are working to promote them within the Asia Pacific region. They will be able to demonstrate an appreciation of the needs of criminal investigators in the UK and convey relevant information to them clearly and efficiently in support of their work.

 

Support Active Criminal Investigations

  • Assist the FCLO in the management of active operational casework.
  • Prioritise requests for information from UK criminal case teams.
  • Liaise with internal partners and Hong Kong law-enforcement agencies to secure appropriate assistance.
  • Pass timely and accurate information back to case teams in the UK.

 

Office Administration

  • Provide office and administration support to the FCLO.
  • Manage IT based intelligence data systems.
  • Filing, managing budgets, accounting, compiling management data.
  • Prepare regular monthly management reports.
  • The ability to use the Microsoft Office suite of applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) effectively
  • Applicants must have the appropriate residence status or a valid working visa in Hong Kong

 

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Knowledge of written and spoken Cantonese and/or Mandarin
  • A working knowledge of the application of criminal law in the UK and Hong Kong, through previous experience of working in a Law Enforcement environment

Due to the sensitive nature of the job and the level of security clearance required for this position, this vacancy is only open to UK, Canada, US, NZ and Australia passport holders, with the right to live and work in Hong Kong.
