View Vacancy - Political and Economic Officer
The British Embassy in Rabat invites applications for the position of Political and Economic Officer, Grade B3 (L).
Purpose of the Job:
This is a key position as a leading Embassy contact point with senior figures, and a core member of the Embassy Team. We are looking for a dynamic self-starter, able to build strong working relationships with a wide network of contacts, use analytical skills to deliver effective and timely reporting and work flexibly within a busy team. You will contribute to organising successful Embassy visits and events, taking responsibility for elements of these. You may be called upon to help with translations and handle routine, at times complex, enquiries.
Roles and responsibilities:
Political
• Track and report on internal political developments, including political reforms, elections, political parties, regionalisation, Government relations with Parliament, the Royal Palace, European Union, International Financial Institutions
• Provide timely advice, analysis and verbal & written briefing on key bilateral issues. Represent the Embassy at meetings and conferences as required. Lead on Human Rights: through maintaining good contacts with HR organisations, eg CNDH, OMDH, AMDH, Amnesty, Transparency International, respond quickly and effectively to requests from within the Embassy and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office
• Contribute to the weekly political summary, alternating with colleagues to draft the final report
• Develop a network of contacts to help inform our analysis and ensure effective delivery of UK messages
• Draft correspondence, including Notes Verbales, and translating/interpreting
Economic
• Monitor and report economic reforms, macro- and socio-economic developments, including employment policy, trade unions, factors of inclusive growth, education. Compile a quarterly report
Chevening
• Oversee Chevening Scholarships promotion and recruitment in Morocco by working closely with the Political Assistant and Media team
Prosperity
• With colleagues from the UK’s Department of International Trade, promote Morocco as a market for UK business
Programmes
• Work closely with Embassy Programmes team on implementation of relevant projects in Morocco
Corporate
• Contribute to the Embassy’s crisis planning
Line Management
• Line manage the Political Assistant
Learning & Development
• Develop and follow up on yearly L&D plan in agreement with line-manager

• Fluent level of spoken and written English (IELTS 7 or equivalent)
• Fluent in French and Arabic both spoken and written
• Knowledge of political and/or economic issues and ability to expand your expertise in these areas
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Confident communication in both speaking and writing
• Ability to work collaboratively and independently
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
• Experience of political and/or economic work
• An existing network of contacts within the political and/or economic sphere
• Experience of report drafting in English
• Experience of interpreting for official meetings and/or translation into French
• University degree in a relevant subject i.e. international relations, politics, economics
Working Hours and Remuneration:
The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including: gross salary of MAD 21,794 per month, inclusive of all allowances. The contract will be a Full Time, Permanent.
Conditioned working hours for the position are 38 hours per week Monday to Friday.
