Main purpose of job:

To support HMG’s objective of facilitating trade and travel from Jamaica that benefits the UK, and preventing travel that does not.   The visa team in the British High Commission Kingston works closely with the customer-facing Visa Application Centre (VAC) run by our commercial partner VFS, the UK decision-making centres in Croydon and Sheffield and is supervised by the UKVI Regional team based in New York. This role is to work alongside two existing Entry Clearance Assistants, covering the full range


Roles and responsibilities:


The jobholder will cover the full range of responsibilities in the visa team in the High Commission in Kingston, including:


Working with the Visa Application Centre (VAC) to:

  • Reconcile and sort all incoming packages;
  • Update our Central Records System (CRS) with applicants’ courier packages tracking details;
  • Compile the VAC Returns Manifest;
  • Prepare packages for despatch and update CRS.

 

Within the High Commission:

  • File passports in passport bank according to the varied TWLS locations (Barbados,Cayman, St. Lucia, Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Trinidad, Guyana and Kingston);
  • Maintain the storage system for applicants’ passports;
  • Contact Applicants via email/telephone where needed for settlement and other complex cases;
  • Retrieve passport from passport bank for processing;
  • Print visas and prepare other paperwork as necessary.

 


The jobholder will also play a full role in the wider work of the High Commission, including serving or internal committees, being part of our crisis response team and working to make the High Commission a great place to work.


Essential on arrival:


Experience working in a Visa Section of a diplomatic Mission


Able to work well under pressure to meet tight deadlines


Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs


Good command of English – both spoken and written for effective communication to customers
