Main purpose of job

We are recruiting a full-time Lead Designer to join the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s (FCO) design and innovation team, FCO Labs.
We’re looking for natural problem solvers with a strong interest in digital transformation and human-centred design. You will be rapidly delivering projects to identify and prototype new ways of working and tools for diplomatic offices and staff across your region.
You will work with a wide range of stakeholders across a variety of locations so you must be confident engaging people across all levels of seniority. You must be naturally curious and always seek to get to the root causes of the problem and to challenge the status quo.
Experience in human-centred design, design-thinking and Agile working are preferable we will also provide training to help develop your skills and to upskill in the “design sprint” methodology that FCO Labs use to deliver their projects.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of FCO Labs projects within your post or region following the FCO Labs methodology; including working with the Overseas Labs Lead to scope the project, leading user-research and analysis, developing ideas and designing solutions as well as reporting progress to the Overseas Labs Lead and making recommendations to stakeholders;
  • Build effective relationships at a working-level with project stakeholders as well as with colleagues at your post and in your region to build a network that can be used to gain the insights needed to successfully deliver projects;
  • Work with the Overseas Labs Lead to promote and grow the visibility of FCO Labs within your post and region.
  • Experience of or an interest in digital transformation, human-centred design, or service design
  • A passion for problem solving and the ability to think "creatively" and come up with fresh ideas to solve a problem
  • A natural curiosity and willingness to rapidly acquire knowledge about new topics
  • Able to confidently work with and engage stakeholders at varying levels of seniority
  • Able to communicate and visualise complex processes and concepts simply and clearly
  • Excellent communications skills in oral and written English. Fluency in other languages used in the region is advantageous

Normal working hours are 37.5 per week: 8.30am to 5.00pm from Monday to Friday. 

British High Commission Singapore supports and promotes flexible working as a crucial part of our inclusive offering. This particular role allows for flexibility in start and end times, working compressed hours, working remotely on one or a couple of days in a week, and the possibility of a job share arrangement, subject to agreement with management.
