The British Embassy in Amman is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual for the position of Post Security Manager, Grade – B3 (L).

Main Purpose of the job:

The Post Security Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day security provision in the Embassy and the Residence and implementing security policy under the direction of the Overseas Security Manager and Post Security Officer.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with the Overseas Security Manager(OSM) in the daily assurance of security to the British Embassy Amman. Deputising for the OSM when absent including acting as Security Manager in the event of a crisis, providing arrivals security briefings to new staff on security environment and arrangements.
  • Under the guidance of the OSM, the job holder will lead on liaison with PSD/Gendarmerie forces, responsible for security outside the perimeters of the Embassy and Residence compounds.
  • The job holder will contribute to the management of contracted security provision during joint daily meetings with the contractor Site Supervisor and monthly joint meetings with the contractor Country Manager.
  • Line management of the Assistant Post Security Manager. Oversight of the contracted Guard Force for both the main Embassy and Residence compounds including where necessary through attendance and supervision at large events held on compound or exterior locations. Contribute to the line management of the contracted Guard Force including performance management, staff development, providing regular constructive feedback and ensuring safeguarding and welfare standards are observed.
  • Participate in security team meetings each working day, reporting to the OSM on the security issues of the previous 24 hours and likely issues for the next 24 hours.
  • Active participation at monthly meetings with senior contracted Guard Force management, providing feedback in coordination with the OSM.
  • Manage and report on Embassy and contracted Guard Force equipment, raising reports issues and deficiencies, keeping the OSM appraised of any resultant risks as required.
  • Support OSM in holding security contractors to account for delivering in line with their contractual requirements, including on maintaining high standards of professional  conduct and effective security provision at all times, and on reporting requirements.
  • Ensuring all appropriate security personnel, shift and equipment logs and records are maintained in an appropriate manner.
  • Be a daily presence in the Embassy and field questions and requests from staff.
  • Conduct emergency drills and in the event of an emergency alarm taking responsibility for identifying the cause and resulting necessary action in coordination with the OSM.
  • Maintain liaison with Host Nation security forces, ensuring relevant flow of security information to OSM and PSO is maintained. Act as the conduit between SB/DSU and OSM/PSO on their view and analysis of the security picture in Jordan.
  • Take a leading role in the design and delivery of security plans for regular large scale functions at the Embassy, under guidance from the ROSM.
  • The jobholder will have a good degree of autonomy though will have the full support of colleagues across the mission. S/he will need to work flexibly to prioritise against competing demands. An ability to maintain effective internal and external networks is required.

Essential:

  • Fluent communication skills in both Arabic and English (speaking, reading and writing).
  • A minimum of 2 years’ previous experience of team management.
  • Strong organisational skills.

  • Relevant PC experience including MS Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint, Teams).

Desirable:

  • A minimum of 5 years previous security experience.
  • Experience of working within organisations with safeguarding, bullying, harassment and discrimination mitigation frameworks.
  • Knowledge of Host Nation security force structure and organisation, not necessarily from a background of military or police service.

Working Hours and Remuneration:

The position is full-time, at 37 hours a week with considerations of flexibility depending on circumstances. In coordination with APSM and OSM, the jobholder may be required to start/finish early or start/finish late. Some requirement to support large official event may be required on an occasional basis.

Pay is on the Embassy B3 (L) scale, with a salary of JOD 1,613 per month. Please note that your salary will be paid gross and you are expected to comply with your tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the local authorities.  If exceptionally you are not liable to pay Jordanian tax, you will receive a net salary which is minus the deduction of an equivalent level of local tax.  Further information on this will be given to candidates at interview if necessary.

This position is offered on a full time, permanent contract. The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-days probationary period. The selected candidate will have the right to live and work in Jordan.
