Main purpose of job:

The Enhanced International Support Services (EISS) programme is the UK Department for International Trade’s new trade support services programme, ensuring the delivery of a quality service to small and medium sized UK businesses looking to export overseas.

The EISS Market Adviser will help to grow the market for UK exports in Indonesia, driving long term increases in trade. They will ensure local delivery of service to UK companies with export enquiries, covering a cross-section of sectors, including providing credible advice to a range of companies, understanding their requirements, undertaking market research and managing the local Overseas Referral Network (ORN), a network of external partners and private sector service providers.  The job holder will be based in Indonesia and have responsibility for supporting the Philippines and Brunei markets too.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

Account Management and Market Enquiry

  • Support the EISS Senior Market Advisors to provide market entry advice to UK small and medium sized businesses looking to export to the Indonesian and Philippines markets, including identifying companies’ route to the market, assessing the market entry needs and options for making progress.
  • Be the main point of contact for UK small and medium sized businesses looking to export to Brunei, providing advice on entering the market.
  • Support the EISS Senior Market Advisors to seek out export opportunities and tenders, identify and build relationships with major local businesses and importers within Indonesian, Philippines and Brunei markets.
  • Conduct research and keep up to date various ‘off the shelf’ local market information products, including overviews of key sectors of interest and ‘how to’ guides relating to core aspects of setting up operations in Indonesia, Philippines and Brunei.
  • Ensure export account management processes are followed and businesses are linked in to the DIT International Trade Advisor Network.
  • Join DIT Jakarta sector teams, EISS, Regional, and Devolved Administration teams’ UK facing promotional opportunities when they occur, and support visibility of market opportunities to SMEs. 

Overseas Referral Network

  • Identify and source potential ORN suppliers and monitor customer satisfaction.
  • Work with the regional EISS Hub maintaining and increasing market intelligence, in order to promote dialogue with clients and build relationships with business in each region, including with a view to updating and expanding the ORN.
  • Maintain knowledge and analysis of Indonesian, Philippines and Brunei markets and work closely with UK missions.

This is a 1-year fixed-term position with possibility of renewal.

  • At least 3 years’ experience in a customer facing and/or business development related job
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, comfortable dealing with senior officials and business people
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Working with regional and virtual teams
  • Ability to adapt and work in a start-up environment
  • Experience in market research & analysis and complete timely and accurate written information in English
  • Strong skills in MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams
  • Ability to travel within Indonesia and the ASEAN region

Language requirements:

  • Language:  Fluent written and spoken Indonesian and English
  • Experience of working with international companies
  • Familiarity with the UK
