The British Embassy in Ankara is part of a world-wide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to hire a Trade and Investment Adviser, Nuclear, Water and Water Treatment, Civil Aviation, Renewables for the DIT Team.

Primarily the job involves liaison with Turkish government and industry, Turkish and British nuclear, water, waste management, civil aerospace and smart cities companies and their in country representatives, and assisting with planning for, and personal involvement in, official visits and relevant exhibitions.

Tasks include monitoring: relevant sector activity; identifying potential opportunities for UK businesses and registering these in the Export Opportunities system.; arranging inward and outward high level visits, appointments and meetings; responding to requests for information and assistance and sometimes accompanying companies on their calls; helping with briefing where necessary; contributing to the annual report and business planning process for the sector; helping to compile computer data bases; research and investigate journals and daily newspapers especially for potential export opportunities. There may be an occasional need for short periods of duty away from Ankara and some international travel.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To support the day to day work of the nuclear, water, waste treatment and civil aerospace sectors within the DIT (the Department for International Trade) team. Managing delivery of the high value campaign and assisting with all reporting, and briefing requirements of the section. Thereby ensuring that all value and volume targets are met by the section;
  • Helping to establish, maintain and expand a wide range of high level contacts in the relevant sectors of industry in Turkey. Working with those contacts and other sources of information to acquire knowledge of the key projects, opportunities and challenges for UK business. Liaising with UK companies and following up on enquiries, including through visits to local companies, supporting the production of chargeable reports for UK companies when commissioned via BCCT;
  • Ensure that all administrative tasks such as appraisals and claim authorisation are performed in a timely way;Arrange events. Assist with the development and implementation of media and engagement strategies for high profile campaigns in the sector liaising closely with embassy press and public affairs colleagues as needed to maximise impact.
  • Good written and spoken communication skills in Turkish and English
  • Some understanding of the Turkish nuclear, water, waste treatment and civil aerospace sectors and how these interact with government would be advantageous
  • Experience of campaigns, lobbying, public relations or similar roles in the public sector would be helpful
  • The ability to work in a diverse, multicultural team where intense pressure and short deadlines are common
  • The ability to effectively support those representing UK interests in meetings with high level audiences
  • Some knowledge of the relevant Turkish industries
  • Experience of working in an international environment either an embassy or multilateral organisation

This is a full-time temporary contract of 8 months to cover a maternity leave for 5 working days (36.25 hours net) per week.

The annual salary for this position is 80,213.28 TL gross, A2 (L) level. Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax required by local law.
