The British Embassy Vilnius is a professional, friendly and inclusive team, which supports the development and wellbeing of all its staff members, and we are looking to recruit a Media Monitoring Officer.

The jobholder will maintain up-to-date oversight of Russian-language media (traditional and social), providing daily updates to colleagues in the embassy and across the region.

Insight and analysis of social media trends and themes of interest, alongside ad hoc support to the wider media team. 

  • Provide high-quality written daily summaries on the Russian media (both inside and outside the country);
  • Spot breaking news throughout the day and alert relevant team members quickly;
  • Carry out research into stories of interest for the embassy communications and/or political team, and FCDO teams in London;
  • Provide insight and advice on the media environment, including trends and current messaging;
  • Manage Embassy newspapers, magazines, periodicals and digital subscriptions and monitor the section’s subscriptions budget;
  • Handle online email enquiries from media and the wider public;
  • Act as the main point of contact for updates on Embassy websites; working closely with Embassy interpreters to ensure websites are up to date in the Russian language;

  • Proficiency at a C level in English and Russian according to CEFR Framework*
  • Must be familiar with the Russian news environment
  • Ability to quickly digest and summarise large amounts of data into concise and meaningful reports
  • Excellent communication skills, both in person and through digital medium
  • Strong IT skills, specifically with competence in the use of Microsoft Office programmes (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Adobe CC;
  • Ability and desire to engage with other colleagues across the network, including senior management
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to see the bigger picture
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours
  • Experience in written translations;
  • Experience in working within a remote team
  • Experience of using HootSuite and/or Brandwatch

This is a full-time, permanent contract of 40 gross hours per week (35 hours net).

The start date for the position is as soon as possible, subject to the availability of the candidate and the length of the recruitment process.
