Communications, Press and Media

Main purpose of job:

The UK expanded its diplomatic network in 2019, adding twelve new missions across the Commonwealth. This included three British High Commissions in St John’s, St George’s and Kingstown, which joined our pre-existing High Commissions in Bridgetown and Castries.

The purpose of this internship is to support the communications output of the British High Commission in Bridgetown and its network of offices (four VSEPs) across the Eastern Caribbean.

The successful candidate will work within the Political and Communication team to help bolster the Network’s digital media presence,  support wider public diplomacy efforts and increase awareness of the UK’s work and priorities regionally.  To do so, you will assist with the management of our central social media channels, create high-impact design and video content, and help to evaluate engagement.

This internship is designed to be an immersive learning and development opportunity for the successful candidate. Under the supervision of our Network Communications Manager you will shadow and learn directly from members of the Political and Communications team.  You will gain a real-world understanding of international development and diplomatic life and the unique intricacies of working within a network structure, observing and contributing to public and development diplomacy in action and learning communications for the Eastern Caribbean. On-the-job training will be provided, and there may be some opportunity to complete other Communications based, or other general training offered by FCDO.
