View Vacancy - Communications Officer (HUN20.081)
The British Embassy in Budapest is part of the United Kingdom’s world-wide diplomatic network, and represents British political, economic and consular interests in Hungary and is now looking to recruit a Communications Officer.
As Part of the Embassy’s Communications and Events team, the successful candidate will contribute to the Embassy’s digital communications, provide assistance to Senior Press and Communications Officer with media work, and provide assistance in organizing larger scale events and projects.
Main roles and responsibilities
Digital work
- Create and post engaging and innovative content across all of the Embassy social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter,
- Update the social media calendar,
- Social media analysis,
- Contribute to social media campaigns promoting UK policies and values,
- Follow and keep up to date with social media and digital trends,
- Photography, videography.
Media work
- Distribute press releases,
- Media monitoring,
- Manage press clippings and compiling media summaries,
- Update press lists and databases,
- Translation of official communication products such as op-eds, statements, press releases.
Project and event support
- Contribute to the successful delivery of embassy-wide public diplomacy projects,
- Support the delivery of innovative campaigns to achieve embassy objectives.
- Fluency (both oral and written) in English and Hungarian,
- Experience of working on or delivering digital communications campaigns
- Working knowledge of social media tools
- Excellent editorial skills,
- Ability to write and edit engagingly in both Hungarian and English, using the appropriate tone of voice aimed at a variety of audiences
- Video recording and editing using relevant software
- A ‘people person’ and effective communicator with strong customer focus
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, respond flexibly to changing priorities
- At least 1 year’s work relevant work experience in digital media and communications
- Able to fit in and work with several Embassy teams
- Ability to work with contacts and colleagues at all levels
- Flexibility and willingness to work additional hours if necessary
- Ability to manage small projects
- Strong IT skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, Office and Internet
- Strong organizational skills with good attention to detail
- Graphic design experience
- Experience in creating infographics
- Knowledge of other digital tools for content creation
- Experience of working with the media
This is a full-time position of 5 days (35 hours net per week) for a fixed-term contract of 24 months, with the possibility of renewal.
The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance. You must have pre-existing work authorisation for Hungary in order to apply.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to terms and conditions service according to Hungarian employment law.
Visa/Passport requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Hungary and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Additional requirements may become necessary after 31st December 2020.
