Main purpose of job:

As the Department for International Trade (DIT) lead for performance, delivery and strategic relationship management (SRM), you will have a critical role in the DIT South Asia management team. Working with the Chief Operating Officer, you will:

  • Performance - Take responsibility for monitoring and evaluating the DIT South Asia network’s performance against testing trade and investment targets, mapping trends and risks, reporting progress to the senior management team and identifying ways to further enhance the network’s delivery.
  • Delivery - Oversee the network’s delivery of the regional trade plan (RTP), which defines the priority areas that the network is focussing on to drive the prosperity agenda between the UK and India and to support our vision to make the UK India’s number one partner in Europe.
  • Strategic Relationship Management - Lead on our work to develop and manage our senior trade, investment, and prosperity relationships, developing and implementing systems to ensure our key accounts are effectively managed towards the best possible outcome for the UK in India.
  • Corporate Role - As a member of network’s management team you will have a corporate responsibility across the network.

You will need to set the direction of your work and drive delivery. A large part of this will be virtual as DIT South Asia teams are based across twelve cities in four countries – India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal. You will work closely with business-facing colleagues across the wider UK Trade Economic and Prosperity Network (UKTEP - DIT South Asia plus teams covering trade policy, science and innovation, economics, finance and prosperity) to influence them to adopt a strategic approach to the network’s performance, delivery and SRM.

The post is based in either New Delhi or Mumbai, and will require occasional travel across India and to the UK. You will report to the Chief Operating Officer, currently based in Bangalore, and you will manage the Performance Analyst, also based in Bangalore. 

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

The job holder will be expected to:

Deliver an innovative prosperity-focussed SRM system across the India network. You will ensure we operationalise the current 50 (and future 300) SRM account plans while building higher account management standards across India and contributing to DIT global best practice. You will work with the network to ensure our collective approach to account management is joined up. You will manage an external supplier who will give us ready information on our top 50 accounts, as well as future leads. You will work with the Head of People to ensure DIT staff are trained to understand the latest business trends and to manage accounts effectively. And you will work with the Trade Policy Team to delivery macro level analysis and to develop a new tranche of market-access accounts (approx. 40%).

Monitor and evaluate DIT South Asia’s performance to provide strategic guidance and recommendations for the Senior Management Team that best informs decision making.

Drawing on available data and analysis from teams across the network you will provide accurate updates of DIT’s support for UK exports to India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal, and foreign direct investment into the UK from these four markets. You will map trends and risks, highlighting significant successes, and identifying areas for further development (approx. 30%).

Oversee the delivery of the Regional Trade Plan (RTP) ensuring teams across the network play their part in progressing the plan’s strategic priorities. You will act as a bridge between senior management and sector teams to ensure that significant progress is being made against the RTP objectives. You will horizon scan to identify opportunities to be exploited and risks to be managed. You will provide regular updates and recommended actions for the senior management team (approx. 25%). 

Contribute to wider corporate objectives. As part of DIT’s management team, you will be responsible for promoting corporate behaviours across the network. You will contribute to wider corporate objectives especially around high level visits (approx. 5%).

Staff: You will line manage the C4L Performance Analyst

Expenditure: £20,000 on average but this could be more depending on activities and travel planned.

  • You will have experience of developing and managing productive relationships with senior stakeholders and partners, and of using these to deliver.
  • You will be highly organised, can do, a self-starter, able to manage yourself and the demands on you; and be able to identify where you should best to spend your time to deliver the most value.
  • You will be highly collaborative and flexible; an excellent team player.
  • In terms of experience, strong commercial experience in a business facing role, good project management skills and proven leadership capability in a senior role are critical if you are to be successful.
  • You will need excellent verbal and written English skills. You will be expected to produce written work in Standard English to a very high standard.

Graduate/post-graduate. Candidates without the required educational qualifications but with exceptional practical experience will be considered.

For other than BHC candidates, salary will be INR 139,184 per month plus 12% provident fund and 6% Superannuation fund.
