The British Consulate-General invites applications for a full time position of Corporate Services and IT clerical officer – Grade A2 in Hong Kong. The appointment will be on a Permanent contract.

Full time role duties will be 40% Corporate Services Duties and 60% ITSO

This is an interesting and diverse role that provides the job holder the opportunity to engage with all departments at the British Consulate-General, offering clerical support to the wider Corporate Services Team and technical support for all IT users.

The successful job holder will have a proven background in IT skills and be able to demonstrate a willingness and enthusiasm to meet the changing needs of the Consulate.

The successful candidate will need to be flexible, work alongside the full time ITSO based role and have a proactive approach to the wide ranging clerical duties which will require strong interpersonal skills to meet the demands of the role.

The role provides support to the IT network, ensuring it runs smoothly, helping to resolve issues on site and helping to raise support calls with the main IT helpdesk in London.

The position offers an excellent opportunity to develop a wide range of skills and the successful job holder will need to have a flexible approach to their work and working schedule.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?

The clerical aspect of the role will require the job holder to proactively undertake duties in support of the wider Corporate Services team.

  • Working within specific Foreign and Commonwealth guidelines on a range of clerical duties including procurement, requisitioning and health and safety.
  • Duties will include contact with external departments, supporting the Corporate Services manager on matters such as health and safety, wellbeing, HR, protocol and managing small discreet projects to achieve Posts Country Business Plan objectives.

Working as part of a team the ITSO requirements will require the job holder to :

  • Troubleshoot and resolve user, hardware and network problems.
  • Escalate problems to IT colleagues in the UK as appropriate.  
  • Keep inventory details up to date
  • help set up rooms and equipment for presentations
  • provide support for users working on Partners Across Government (PAG) systems as required.
  • Cover for the main ITSO in absences
  • Ensure Consular crisis equipment updated regularly.
  • Strong Knowledge of IT applications and MS Windows
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Experience providing administrative support to wider teams
  • A willingness to learn and develop IT skills
  • Must be the holder of either a British, American, Australian, New Zealand or Canadian passport in order to meet security clearance requirements
  • Experience in providing IT helpdesk support
  • Experience with Active Directory
  • Understanding of network equipment and cabling infastructure
  • Strong IT skills with relevant IT qualifications an advantage (hardware, software and services)
