UK Mission

Main purpose of job:

Under guidance and direction of the occupants of the British High Commission Official Residence, the Chef/Residence Officer and Corporate Services Officer, the incumbent will undertake general cleaning, laundry duties and support for events. Assistance with events/functions hosted at the Residence, which will entail some early, late and weekends work, for which overtime will be paid.

Roles and responsibilities:

General Cleaning: Ensure the Residence is clean and presentable at all times; dust surfaces, mop floors in rooms, hallways and stairs; polish wooden furniture; clean ornaments, vacuum and clean rugs, carpets, upholstrered furniture and draperies using vacuum cleaners and shampoos.

Laundry: Sort clothing and other articles, wash, iron, dry, fold and put away items.

Official Functions/Events: Assist with organisation of events/functions; arrange dining table furniture or garden furniture, set tables with cutlery, support the chef in the kitchen, assist with serving and clean up after events. Greet guests, ensure they sign visitors book, make and serve tea and drinks

Maintenance: When required/feasible assist Maintenance Manager in overseeing contractors/workers carrying out works inside the Official Residence

Other: Any other task that may be assigned from time to time.

Purchasing and reconciliation of expenses for functions/events

Essential on arrival:

  • Minimum of two years experience in similar role

Language requirements:

Language: English

Level of language required: Reading and writing of English language

Desirable: Certificate from Carnegie School of Home Economics or similar qualification

BHC Georgetown has members of staff who work flexible hours. Such working may be available for this position.
