The British Embassy Riyadh has a vacancy for a Trade & Investment Advisor under the Department for International Trade.

The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the British government’s lead department for international trade and supports foreign investment into the United Kingdom. This is an interesting and varied role located within the British Embassy in Riyadh, and comes at an interesting time as the relationship develops between both countries.

The successful candidate will promote opportunities within the UK Education and Training (E&T) Sector across the whole KSA network, leading on Riyadh-based Government-to-Government work. You will understand KSA market trends and ambitions to identify valuable Export Opportunities and secure high value Export Wins in pursuit of regional (Middle East & North Africa) targets for DIT.


Duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage relationships strategically with UK providers, the E&T Cluster Lead, DIT Sector Group, FCO Prosperity teams, the British Council, and KSA stakeholders to identify KSA E&T needs. Translate these into solid Export Wins for UK providers.
  • Develop and maintain a Strategic Relationship Management (SRM) approach across specific sectors for key interlocutors in the Education sector.
  • Stay informed of key trends and trajectory of the Education element of Vision 2030 goals.
  • Engage senior interlocutors in the Saudi education system, primarily government bodies based in Riyadh, to understand the scope of KSA objectives around all areas of Education and Training in the context of Vision 2030 and the National Transformation Plan. Be able to assess and analyse this activity and demand to inform DIT & HMG approach to the sector.
  • With other colleagues in the Education and Training Cluster in DIT KSA and London, deliver a demand-led business plan and proactive market strategies to direct activity in the sector. This will be based on advocacy with Saudi institutions and UK providers to match demand in KSA.
  • Alongside DIT colleagues, deliver events e.g., trade missions, inward and outward visit programmes.

The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Embassy emergency planning and any response to a crisis.

Identifying economic, market, and customer issues and using these to promote innovative business models, commercial partnerships and agreements to deliver greatest value; and ensuring tight commercial controls of finances, resources and contracts to meet strategic priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to influence and network confidently with industry leaders, government officials, and senior business people; and collaborate effectively across Embassy teams.
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Arabic (for liaising with KSA government), both written and spoken.
  • Ability to multi-task and have good organisational skills. Ability to respond quickly and flexibly to meet multiple and changing priorities.
  • Resourcefulness in solving problems and demonstrates good judgement.
  • Team player who is capable of working on their own initiative and manage others.
  • Strong IT computer skills and in using MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Project management experience.
  • Public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Previous commercial experience and working in a target driven environment.
  • Previous experience in the education sector.

Salary details:

  • Base Salary including Eid bonus - SAR 8,365.41
  • Housing Allowance - SAR 2,091.35 (subject to eligibility)*
  • Travel Allowance - SAR 400 (subject to eligibility)*

*Allowances are not payable to staff who receive official provision for such expenditure in some other form.


No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

Normal working hours for the Embassy are 08.00 to 15.00 Sunday to Thursday. This position is full-time, based on 35 hours per week.

The jobholder should be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will be dictated by operational needs and may involve working out of hours, especially during events and visits. There may also be requirement for some travel, both internationally and within Saudi Arabia.

The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-day probationary period.

Eligibility:

The position is available to Saudi Nationals and to holders of Saudi residence permits or transferable Iqamas. Successful candidates will be required to transfer their sponsorship to the British Embassy.
