Main purpose of job:

The British High Commission in Islamabad has one of the UK’s largest fleets of vehicles overseas, including armoured cars, soft-skin 4x4s and minibuses. As one of three mechanics, you will play a key role in keeping these vehicles roadworthy and in good condition. You will need to respond quickly and efficiently to changing requirements, including during periods of crisis and when supporting complex, multi-city VIP visits. On a day-to-day basis, the fleet of armoured vehicles is occupied with visits around Islamabad, and outstation visits to Lahore, Peshawar and elsewhere.Keeping the fleet on the road is a critical part of the High Commission’s operation.

Roles and responsibilities:

The jobholder will be expected to look after the general and detailed maintenance of LTV and HTV fleet including armoured vehicles at BHC. This includes maintaining records of scheduled maintenance and vehicle log books. They will be expected to overhaul engines, braking systems, suspension systems, electrical and air-conditioning systems of HTV and LTVs etc. It would be essential to have strong mechanical knowledge on Toyota Land Cruiser V8 200 series and be up to date with the modern electrical systems in the vehicle. Line manage mechanic and assistant mechanic. It would be a core responsibility to maintain efficient updates with the line management and provide advice when needed. They would be required to maintain equipment and tools in good condition. Verify vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems. 

You will be required to be available outside of working hours, including over weekends, if needed. 

Language requirements:

Language: English

Level of language required: Can speak and understand little. 

Essential on arrival: 

At least five years previous experience of maintaining and repairing armoured and soft-skin vehicles and in-depth knowledge of mechanical and electrical aspects of the vehicles and the local auto industry.  Experience of working with Toyota vehicles will be an advantage. 

Experience of working in a high performing, customer-service oriented team, meeting challenging demands, exceeding targets, managing budgets and dealing with demanding individuals.

Normal communication skills with spoken and written English to be assessed as part of the recruitment process. 

Certificate of competency in Automobile Engineering from a recognised institute in Pakistan or abroad.


Must have LTV/HTV valid licence and be able to drive heavy vehicles.  Must have IT skills i.e. able to use computer system and access emails.

The required skills and qualifications would be assessed through a test, which would be conducted during the hiring process.

SALARY PACKAGE :

For British High Commission (BHC) candidates, the Local Staff BHC Terms & Conditions will apply.

For other than BHC candidates, salary will be PKR 67,867.
