Community Liaison

The National Crime Agency (NCA) leads UK law enforcement's fight to cut serious and organised crime. The NCA has national and international reach and facilitates cooperation between UK and International Law Enforcement Agencies and partners. The NCA team in Romania is part of the International Liaison Officers Network. The main purpose of the job is to provide adequate administrative support to the NCA team at post, as well as resilience to broader team activities as and when required.

The ideal candidate should have excellent interpersonal, administrative and organisational skills, as well as the ability to manage confidential matters.

This role will develop diverse tasks, such as:

  • Provision of written and spoken translation services for the NCA Liaison Officer;
  • Support with scheduling and attending meetings across Romania, Moldova and on occasions other countries with a diverse range of law enforcement partners and senior officials from all levels of government. Interpreting and taking minutes of those meetings;
  • Support with managing the daily running of the office, including the internal record-keeping tools, procurement (acting as HERA requisitioner) and fleet (vehicle MOT/Returns/Service/Support);
  • Working to a high standard to deliver against set parameters, making decisions from a narrow range of options with guidance from senior colleagues and management;
  • Flexibility to work out of hours and also travel at short notice, including weekends if necessary;
  • Support with general team activities, including organising visits and conferences of partners to Romania, Republic of Moldova, the UK and elsewhere;
  • Liaise with partners within the Embassy to enhance the NCA “one platform” approach through joint working;
  • Support with implementing and managing bilateral projects on capacity building and public education;
  • Making decisions concerning the organisation of own work, proactively contributing to work of the team and being open to feedback.

Ability to use a range of software, in particular Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the Internet;

Ability to develop and maintain administrative systems, such as record management;

Strong organisational skills for document and record management;

Ability to respect the confidentiality of work issues.

Experience in working in a multicultural, international environment;

Experience interacting with wide range of stakeholders.

This is a full-time, permanent contract, of 5 working days (35 hours) per week. Working hours are Monday to Thursday from 8:00 to 16:30, Friday 08:00 to 13.00, with a flexible working hours arrangement.

The annual leave entitlement is 25 days per year pro rata and the Embassy also enjoys a maximum of 14 Romanian / UK public holidays per year. 

The monthly salary is 5,140.00 RON (gross). In addition, staff receive 1028 RON Compensation Bonus.

In addition, staff are entitled to a 13th month salary pro rata and may receive a performance related bonus at year end. Staff also receive meal vouchers and a monthly subscription to a medical centre. An individual personal development plan will be agreed with the successful candidate, which may include training outside Romania. The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance, and satisfactory completion of a probationary period of 120 working days. 

Post holder will need to adhere to an NCA Risk Mitigation protocol outlining the sensitivities of NCA materials and practices, and requirement to protect these.

The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation for Romania, in order to apply.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Romania are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Romanian employment law.

Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Romania and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
