Main purpose of job: 

The successful candidate will work as part of the Immigration Enforcement International (IEI) team at the British High Commission New Delhi.  

IEI form part of the Immigration Enforcement arm of the Home Office within Immigration Intelligence and the Delhi team is responsible for India and Nepal. We work with UK and international law enforcement partners to tackle immigration crime, primarily through preventing the travel of inadequately documented passengers to the UK, enhancing visa decision quality; identifying and tackling underlying criminality and providing intelligence about threats to the UK border. 

Within the IEI team we will be setting up a new sub-team focused on the capacity building of airline and immigration staff within India and Nepal. The successful candidate will be joining this sub-team in order to provide administrative support to Immigration Liaison Officers who will be conducting the capacity building.  

A key element of the role will be working closely with a range of internal and external partners, including host authorities, airlines and international partners.    

The position is for an initial one year contract and may be subject to renewal. 

Roles and Responsibilities:

Administrative support

  • Collaborate with the IEI team and external/internal stakeholders to support and coordinate capacity building activity in India and Nepal.
  • Assist in developing a clear and coherent programme of capacity building within both countries.
  • To provide logistical support such as organising flights, accommodation and venue arrangements for Immigration Liaison Officers and delegates.
  • To co-ordinate and complete the timely submission of reports on programmes.
  • Assist the IEI team in managing financial/budgetary planning, exercise quality control over all procedures and documents, and ensure proper follow-up as necessary.

Liaison

Help develop and maintain strong internal and external stakeholder relationships with airlines and international liaison colleagues, as well as High Commission and Home Office colleagues.

Resources managed:  

The successful candidate will be expected to adhere to the FCO policy and guidance on expenditure when carrying out their duties. This may include but not limited to, flight booking, accommodation and venue booking and procuring items.

Language requirements:  

Language: English and Hindi. Fluency in other regional languages would be an advantage.

Any other information: 

Occasional travel may be required in support of training and meetings. 

Applicants that are successful in obtaining an interview will be required to undertake tests to demonstrate their ability in using Microsoft Office and their organisational skills. 

Essential on arrival:  

  • University graduate level of education.
  • Proficiency at using Microsoft Office.
  • Experience of providing logistical support such as organising flights, accommodation and venue arrangements
  • Effective and confident communication skills
  • The ability to prioritise work effectively under pressure.

Desirable:

Experience of completing both numerical and written reports.
