Main purpose of the job:

We require a highly skilled person in plumbing with a considerable knowledge in mechanical and electrical system as well as high quality workmanship. The job holder is expected to carry out all technical related preventive and breakdown maintenance as needed to comply with British standards. Besides these skills, it is also necessary to have a good level of customer service experience. The candidate will be a key member of the technical works section to maintain the High Commission’s estate encompassing various offices and residential properties in and off the compound.

Roles and responsibilities:

Installs, maintains, and repairs pipes and fixtures associated with heating, cooling, water distribution, and sanitation systems in residential and commercial structures of the compound as per FCO standards.

  • Maintenance and troubleshooting of drainage system of the compound.
  • Preventive and on call maintenance of Gas, electric and solar water heaters.
  • Scheduled maintenance and cleaning of swimming pool and related systems.
  • Supervision of scheduled cleaning work of water tanks and daily update of available water storage to Line Manager.
  • Provide technical assistance to contractors to ensure British Standards and Health and Safety compliance guidance are being followed for any plumbing/ gas relating work.

  • Complete all related documents, work orders and forms in line with compliance by using MS Office/ Excel.

  • Ensure value for money for all projects without compromising required standards. Stand in for support of Mechanical and Electrical technicians whenever needed.

Any other information:

Working hours are ordinarily 48 hours per week. There may be a requirement to work non conditioned hours due to on call duties in the evenings and weekends. Language requirements: 

Language: English and Sinhala or Tamil

Level of language required: Basic written and spoken

Other skills / experience / qualifications: 

Essential on arrival:

  • Technical certification/ course or Diploma in related field.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in plumbing and drainage work.
  • Experience in mechanical and electrical system breakdown and maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of email writing/ reading and MS Office / excel.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Desirable:  

  • Compliance with the Health & Safety standards within the workplace and office.

  • Delivering facilities management service maintenance throughout the workplace.

  • Basic spoken English skills.
