View Vacancy - Head Guard - INTERNAL VACANCY (ALB23.036)
The British Embassy in Tirana is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic, commercial and consular interests overseas. We are currently looking for a Head Guard to organize and manage security provision for BE Tirana personnel, visitors and facilities.
The Head Guard oversees conduction of access control and visitor screening duties ensuring all procedures are in line with security protocols/procedures. Deputises for PSM role in the absence of PSM. In exceptional circumstances, acts as a member of the security team.
What will the jobholder be expected to achieve?
- Serves in the Embassy security team in provision of security for all British Embassy facilities and leased residences by providing operational and administrative supervision of each local guard shift ensuring that British government property and personnel are safeguarded;
- Serves as Deputy Post Security Manager (PSM), in the absence of PSM, covering security and transport responsibilities. Supports Post Security Officer (PSO) in implementing security procedures;
- Assists Security Guard/s, including, planning the schedules, guard assignments and making arrangements as needed based upon environmental conditions;
- Understand the security control panel and operate emergency alarms and the public address system;
- Conducts refresher training to existing Security Guards and/or newly recruited ones;
- Use security and radio communication equipment, fire extinguisher and other emergency equipment;
- Ability to walk and/or stand for extended periods in a wide variety of weather conditions, ability to work flexible, and in exceptional circumstances in shift schedules, to include nights, days, weekends, and/or holidays, and ability to react quickly and effectively to a variety of security incidents;
- Must be able to independently take action as necessary depending on the nature of incidents outlined in Post Security Regulations;
- Must be able to communicate with persons from all socioeconomic classes. Must be familiar with dispute mediation tactics to ease potentially dangerous security situations;
- Must be proficient in presentation techniques and instructional strategies;
- Have knowledge of the emergency response procedures and notification process, familiarity with security equipment and processes, awareness of cultural norms and customs.
- Intermediate English (B2) and fluent Albanian (C1) level according to CEFR Framework*;
- Completion of secondary education, high school diploma or the local equivalent;
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in the military or as a police officer, or as a security guard is required;
- A minimum of 1 year managerial experience;
- Good working knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
- Managerial experience in the field of security;
- Experience in the use / operating of Mail Scanners / X – Ray Machines, searching of vehicles and people and able to provide evidence (certificate) of training;
- Experience in training other staff members on how to use/operate scanners/X-Ray Machines.
This is for a full time employment, on a fixed term basis for one-year with possibility of renewal. The gross salary per month is ALL 134,826.00
Embassy working hours are from 08.30-17:00 Mon-Thu and 08.30-14:30 on Fridays. This is a full-time position of 5 days (36 hours net per week). The Embassy supports the work-life balance of its employees and is open to flexible working.
No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
The successful candidate must have the right to live and work in Albania.
The successful candidate will be required to pass a language skills test and undergo security clearance before commencing the role.
The successful candidate will be subject to a professional background check and security clearance - local and international ‘Vetting’ process will be performed to the successful candidate.
