To support delivery of the UK government’s objectives in Tanzania through communications. Ensuring communications are a key part of the British High Commission’s programmes to raise awareness of UK government activity in Tanzania and support the policy work of the British High Commission. 

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Work with policy teams to embed communications into the British High Commission’s programmes and activities in Tanzania, with a particular focus on prosperity and climate change work.  
  • Write and maintain a central High Commission script of top lines, key points and statistics, working alongside policy teams
  • Draft and issue press releases, social media, media lines, and advise the British High Commissioner and other senior officers on interactions with the media.
  • Contribute to the High Commission’s social media presence, through regular updating with relevant, interesting, targeted content.
  • Lead locally on UK government schemes to identify future leaders and award volunteers with UK recognition
  • Lead High Commission communications on consular issues and engagement with British Nationals
  • Lead High Commission preparedness on crisis communications
  • Other communication work as required
  • Communications experience
  • Strong English and Swahili language 
  • Excellent written, verbal, & interpersonal communications; active listening skills
  • Strong IT skills (Word, PowerPoint, social media, basic photo editing)
  • Thorough understanding of the media environment in Tanzania
  • Programme management experience
  • An existing network of contacts in media
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications
