Science and Innovation

The Global Science Department has a presence in the UK, Middle East and North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, and this post will be based within the East Africa Research & Innovation Hub (EARIH), British High Commission Nairobi, Kenya.

We utilise our advantage of being located in-country to deliver six key objectives.

  • Provide demand responsive research and evidence, responding to country and regional needs
  • Building research capacity and capability through country and regional initiatives and investments
  • Developing digital, technology and innovation ecosystems through bespoke programmes
  • Improving coherence of UK ODA science, technology, and innovation investments
  • Delivering equitable and ambitious science partnerships between the UK and partner countries

We require a flexible, proactive and organised individual to support EARIH, the Hub network and Kenya BHC colleagues deliver science, technology and innovation programmes. This role will be part of our EARIH team that works to deliver our objectives in East Africa, whilst also leading on several pan-African science, technology, and innovation partnerships. To ensure maximum productivity and the smooth running of the EARIH Hub, the role will provide business support services for the EARIH, the Hub network, and the wider British High Commission in science, technology and innovation. This role will also include a strong programme and financial management element , management of programme delivery plans, and risk reviews of key Research & Innovation Hub programmes.  An outline of the role is given below, and we are happy to discuss further at the interview stage.

·         You employ your organisation skills both to manage your own work, and to maintain and develop cross-team business support processes

·         You have well developed communication skills including oral and written with experience of producing various communication products such as blogs, case studies, social media content, briefing scripts etc.

·         You can pro-actively lead on key pieces of complex work with limited support and flexibly respond to new priorities as they arise

 

·         You have close attention to detail, although you still manage to be adaptable and meet tight deadlines

·         You show initiative by suggesting new ways of working, embracing change whilst supporting other colleagues in doing so

·         You find it easy to build relationships around common objectives and work in partnerships with a range of stakeholders in order to meet them

·         You employ various methods to keep on top of your workload, and manage competing priorities from a range of stakeholders

·         Experience of working in the field of science, technology and innovation

·         Experience of programme management and delivery within FCDO
