The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has an HR Regional Corporate Services Hub (RCSH) in Lisbon, overseeing 83 British Embassies, High Commissions and Consulates in 50 Countries in Europe and Central Asia.

We are the HR Regional Corporate Services Hub, and we provide top notch HR Services including recruitment, pay and reward, talent and performance management and advise on everything HR related to our 50 countries. We support employees, line mangers and senior leadership teams with both operational and strategic issues and challenges.

What is this role all about? 

The Recruiter will join the team on fixed term contract (12 months) and be part of the Regional Recruitment team, leading recruitment campaigns from A-Zproviding expertise to our embassies, ensuring HR policies and processes are globally consistent and locally appropriate in a timely and courteous fashion. 

This role would suit a person with previous customer facing experience and a resilient approach, who is able to work both as part of a team and independently, has great interpersonal skills, is proactive and contributes with ideas and ways of providing a high quality HR service to the organisation. 

Main responsibilities will include: 

  • Partner with hiring managers within the Regional Network to understand their needs, lead on recruitment processes, provide guidance and expertise on finding the best candidates in markets across Europe, delivering a high quality service 
  • Ensure effectiveness of recruitment processes, by using the appropriate methodology and tools across all stages while meeting response time defined in the Service Level Agreements. 
  • Communicate regularly and effectively throughout the completion of recruitment process. 
  • Track and assess Recruitment activity for assigned Embassies; ensure accurate records and capture critical information on the recruitment system.
  • Contribute with ideas and opportunities for improvement on a regional scale.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned. 
  • Degree in either HR, Psychology, Business Administration or related areas. 
  • Previous experience in Human Resources, especially recruitment. 
  • Excellent level of English is essential (both oral and written). 
  • Excellent organisational, communication and analytical skills, as well as attention to detail. 
  • Ability to collaborate remotely with stakeholders at all levels of seniority in an international environment. 
  • Proven strong customer service focus. 
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and in a confidential way
  • Able to use judgement, manage time effectively under own direction and prioritise tasks. 
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.  
  • International experience, either by working or studying abroad. 
  • Experience in a high-volume HR shared services role or operations role. 
  • Experience in remote customer management (using new IT tools).

This is a full-time, Fixed term contract of 12 months, subject to a 30-day probation period.

The British Embassy in Lisbon aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role of €22,234.87 gross annual salary paid in fourteen instalments: plus, a monthly meal allowance of €167.64. This salary is payable if the successful candidate is subject to individual income tax (IRS) in Portugal on the employment income in question. If the successful candidate is not subject to individual income tax (IRS) on their employment income in Portugal, and/or is not taxable elsewhere on such income, s/he will receive the above salary minus a reference amount approximate to the level of Portuguese tax that would be applicable if the income were subject to tax locally. Further information on this will be given to candidates during the recruitment process.

All staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Portugal are subject to local Portuguese employment law as well as internal regulations in force at any given time.

The successful candidate will be subject to a professional background and security clearance and must have pre-existing work authorisation for Portugal in order to apply.

The Embassy will not consider applications from existing staff who have not successfully completed their probation period or, in the case of staff on temporary contract who have not yet completed two thirds of their contract.
