The British Embassy in Paris is part of the UK Government’s global network, dedicated to promoting British political and economic interests in France and providing consular support to British nationals living in or visiting the country. As part of the Public Diplomacy team within the Communications & Engagement department, the Events & Outreach Officer will play a key role in strengthening Franco-British relations through impactful events, campaigns, and partnerships. The role offers an opportunity to contribute to the Embassy’s outreach efforts both in-person and online, working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities: Public Diplomacy Activities - Collaborate with colleagues to design and deliver activities that promote the Embassy’s Public Diplomacy objectives, ensuring maximum visibility and engagement both in-person and online.
- Contribute to creative content production, including visuals for events and campaigns, and support promotion through social media and other channels.
- Identify and develop partnerships to enhance the Embassy’s visibility and influence in France.
Event Organisation - Organise and deliver events as required, ensuring they are planned and executed in line with the Embassy’s objectives, budget, and priorities.
- Provide on-the-ground support during events and handle post-event follow-up, such as drafting thank-you letters, creating social media posts, and reconciling budgets.
Public Diplomacy Thematic Activities - Organise campaigns that align with our business plan priorities, such as the Ambassador for a Day program focused on Gender Equality, or the Embassy’s Green Week initiative addressing Climate Change.
Outreach and Youth Engagement - Support the implementation of the Embassy’s Youth Engagement Strategy, building relationships with schools, associations, and other organisations across France to foster connections with young audiences.
- Identify and establish new contacts with institutions and stakeholders to expand the Embassy’s outreach network.
Secretariat and Governance Support - Serve as the secretariat for the Soft Power Board and the Programme Governance Board, managing logistics such as scheduling meetings, sending invitations, and writing minutes.
Adaptability and Collaboration - Work flexibly to adapt to changing priorities and Embassy needs, providing support across the Communications & Engagement department.
- Join the daily press review rota and assist with translations of written materials into French as needed.
- Provide support to other teams as required eg additional support on social media and other ad hoc events (eg large commemorations/visits).
Events organization in support of communications and engagement objectives – (Approximately 85% of your time) - Assist Public Diplomacy team across all stages of the event planning cycle, working with internal and external partners/suppliers to deliver successful, timely and budgeted events. Support the team on the day of the event (this requires flexibility in working patterns) and ensure a proper follow up (Thank you letters, posts on SM, budget reconciliation).
- Work on database of targeted contacts in different sectors of activities.
- Lead on GREAT activities for the Public Diplomacy team. Secure and manage GREAT funds by writing up and submitting GREAT bids, coordinate with teams, organise funded activities, and prepare post-activity reports, liaising with all France network involved team (Visit Britain, British Council…). Track finances, budgets and evaluations.
- Innovate British Embassy’s social media presence. Propose new activities and content.
- Manage communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Work closely with Media team to ensure campaigns and events are communicated appropriately.
- Identify and develop partnerships to extend the France Network’s knowledge of, and impact and visibility in, France.
Wider team support – (Approximately 15% of your time) - Taking part in the section’s press review rota, which involves summarizing news articles.
- Supporting with translations from English into French, for example tweets, press notices etc.
