The role will see you working with exciting companies as they expand internationally.


You will support both Australian companies with UK expansion ambitions, and UK companies with Australian trade and export ambitions.

Specifically, you will support on market research, business set-up assistance, sector information and expansion support to high-growth businesses in Australia and the UK.

The job holder will report to the Head of Investment (WA) and form part of a wider UK network at the British Consulate and the British High Commission.

This exciting and engaging role will work with leading Australian companies seeking to expand into the UK as well as British companies exporting to Australia.

You will work with each company to support their internal decision-making processes. This will be achieved through account management, project management, relationship management, and administration of the Department’s data needs. 

Essential to the role will be the ability to communicate UK information and materials to each company. The role requires collaboration through a virtual team structure in Australia and New Zealand (colleagues are located in Perth, Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane, Wellington and Auckland), with UK-based sector team colleagues, UK regional team colleagues, and a centralised investment services team – who each play a supporting role to you by providing introductions, economic data and research. 

The jobholder will work with the Head of Investment (WA) to research the WA ecosystem and develop a business plan to target high-growth Western Australian companies and attract them to the UK. In creating and delivering the business plan you will liaise with the team around Australia, HQ in London, the marketing and communications team, and the wider regional APAC team where appropriate and required.


The role will also require event planning, management and attendance, as well as relationship building at industry forums, and will require the ability to communicate effectively. An ability to network, establish strong relationships within the WA business community, and other industry multipliers to actively support and leverage outcomes will be viewed favourably.


Additionally, the jobholder will be required to provide strategic high quality services to UK companies seeking to explore opportunities in the Australian market including market research, analysis, reporting and supporting market visits on a range of sectors including, but not limited to, oil & gas, mining, power generation and water.


The role will include elements of travel to visit companies as well as for learning and development. This will include travel around both Australia and the UK.


The role will include some strategic support and assistance to the broader DIT team, the British Consulate staff at Post and the wider Australia network.

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate field
  • A minimum of one years’ work experience in business, ideally in an international & B2B context, business development or market research.
  • Strong inter-personal, networking, presentation and communication skills
  • Strong research and analytical skills with capacity to collate and synthesise information from a wide variety of sources and tailor information to diverse audiences
  • Good knowledge of the Australian business environment
  • Ability to deliver to ambitious targets and outcomes
  • Proactive and enthusiastic with a self-starter mind-set
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team
  • High level organisational skills and ability to work at pace under pressure to achieve results
  • Some knowledge of the UK’s business environment, and some regional centres of the UK.
  • Some knowledge of the processes involved in overseas company expansions (foreign direct investment and international trade (exports)).
  • High level knowledge of the key sectors in WA including oil & gas, mining, water and power generation.
  • Competency and experience with Microsoft Teams
  • Experience with research intelligence tools, such as IBISWorld and customer relations management systems

Full time employment (38 hrs), with occasional out of working hours for events and travel.

Appointment is subject to an AFP records check and UK security clearance.

Open to Australian citizens, permanent residents, and partners/ dependents of UK-based diplomatic staff currently posted in Australia.

A security check (and clearance) may be required prior to employment.

Staff recruited locally by the British High Commission and its Consulates is subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Australian employment law. Interstate applicants will be required to meet their own travel and relocation expenses.
