Background of the Role:

The UK is committed to supporting Qatar’s delivery of a safe, secure and successful World Cup in 2022 (WC22). The UK Prime Minister and the Qatari Emir have expressed a shared vision to develop a strong and multifaceted partnership to support delivery of the event. Our proposals to date encompass a wide range of Government-to-Government coordination, leveraging talent and capabilities from across Whitehall, from policing, counterterrorism, cyber security and defence to trade and consular coordination. The framework for our partnership is in place, but much is yet to still be agreed on the nuts and bolts of implementation.

As the event draws closer and brings with it-increased momentum, the British Embassy in Doha is seeking an experienced project and visits officer. The post holder will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of inward visits for UK officials travelling to Qatar. They will be required to foster and build relationships with a variety of stakeholders to build a network of contacts to deliver the smooth running of visits – creating programmes, pulling together briefings and logistics.

The jobholder will also report to the C4L Legacy Cooperation & Project Coordination lead to provide project support, ensuring that we are on track to deliver against our key milestones.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

The jobholder will work as part of a busy political team to bolster efforts and lead on the choreography of an anticipated surge in UK officials travelling to Qatar, ahead of the World Cup in 2022. The main function of the role will be to ensure the smooth coordination and delivery of inward visits to Qatar. A proven track record of working across multiply teams the post holder will need to:

  • Work closely with policy leads from across the Embassy and colleagues in London to collate objectives for the visits;
  • Carve out a programme for visitors;
  • Arrange meetings with relevant offices across the Qatari machinery of government;
  • Arrange logistics for visitors;
  • Maintaining contacts lists;
  • Project management of delivery plan – updating and adjusting delivery plans where required;
  • Substitute for the C4L when required.
  • Planning and participation on contingency planning in the run up to the world cup in 2022.

The jobholder will also be responsible for tracking and driving activity to deliver against our key milestones.

  • Experience leading on visits planning and preparation or complex event management;
  • Experience in dealing with a wide range of stakeholders at different levels;
  • Candidates should also have the ability to think logically/laterally and be able to display sound judgement and common sense;
  • Project management;
  • Experience in office management;
  • Experience working within a team;
  • Strong organisational skills and keen attention to detail, self-management and ability to work unsupervised;
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office programmes and be able to adapt to other systems.
  • Arabic language is desirable but not essential;
  • Previous experience and knowledge of the UK and Qatari governments.

Working Hours and Remuneration:

The British Embassy offers a competitive remuneration package, including non-negotiable salary of QR 15,329 per calendar month and transportation allowance of QR 800 per calendar month, paid in arrears. The contract will be for a full time employment, on a fixed term basis initially until March 2021 with a view to extend until January 2023, subject to funding.

No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

Embassy working hours are 7.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. Sunday to Wednesday and 7.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. on Thursday. Flexible working can be considered for the right candidate. However, due to the nature of the role, some flexibility on hours will be required.

The successful applicant will have access to a range of Learning and Development opportunities with in-house and e learning, with the potential for overseas training. From time to time, there will be requirements to assist other teams within the Department, working with other members of the team to build overall experience through delivery of training and awareness session

Eligibility:

Applicants must already reside in Qatar, have a valid residence permit and therefore hold the right to live and work there, including those either under spouse sponsorship or be able to transfer an existing sponsorship to the British Embassy.

Process:

The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around two months.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo security-vetting procedures. Any offer of employment will be subject to the candidate achieving suitable clearances, medical clearance and reference checks.
